Dodge Showcases Its Performance Heritage in the New Stratus

Dodge adds a coupe to the Stratus model line and drops the Avenger nameplate. The Stratus sedan shares its platform with the all-new Chrysler Sebring sedan, while the new Stratus coupe shares its underpinnings with the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Both models offer improved interior room and horsepower as well as additional improvements aimed at reducing interior noise. The familiar Dodge cross-hair grill is carried over onto both cars, emphasizing their sporty intent.

The Stratus sedan is available in base SE and an upscale ES trim. The base SE is powered by an all-new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with cassette, rear-window defrost, four-wheel disc brakes, speed control, tilt wheel and front seatbelt pretensioners. The ES includes all these features and adds a 2.7-liter, 200 horsepower V6 engine, AutoStick transmission, 16-inch wheels, fog lamps and a CD player. All Stratus sedan models come standard with multistage driver and front passenger airbags that deploy at different rates depending on impact speed and all models offer an optional side-impact airbag curtain.

The Stratus coupe is comprised of the base SE and the racy new R/T, the latter evoking the hot rod image conjured up by the late 60's Dodge muscle cars. The SE comes standard with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder mated to a 5-speed manual with a 4-speed automatic optional. Standard features include 16-inch steel wheels with covers, AM/FM cassette six-speaker stereo, air conditioning, tilt wheel, power windows and speed control. The R/T sees engine output increase to 200-horsepower with the addition of the new 3.0-liter V6. This engine can be teamed to the standard 5-speed or optional AutoStick. In addition to the SE's features, the R/T gets 17-inch wheels, optional leather seating and stainless steel exhaust.
