Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: air conditioning
Cons: No anti-lock brakes
Advice: It's a great car!I bought my 2002 Dodge Neon back in March. Since then, I haven't been disappointed in it's handling, ride, or performance. Mine is the base model with no extra options except A/C. Although power windows and locks would be nice, I am very impressed with it. It handles great around town and accelerates fine. The only thing I wish I would have bought is the anti-lock brakes.
Pros: It's cute!!. Roomy inside, small outside.
Cons: Outside rear view mirrors should allow you to see more.
Advice: Go get one!I purchased my 2003 Neon SE from military sales in Heidelberg Germany on 1 Oct 2002. Everything about the car is top quality. Mine is bright silver metallic and when I park beside a silver BMW or Mercedes of similar size it looks just as expensive. (I live in Germany, but the zip code prompt below wouldn't allow me to enter my APO AE 09102 zip, hence the zip for my headquarters is entered.)
Pros: the stock cd player
Cons: it takes to long to pick up and go but onces it starts getting up to speed its fine
Advice: for the price of the car it is worth it this car will not break you when it comes to money and you can get it loaded for a fair pricethis car handles very well in the corners its also very good in gas
Pros: smooth shifting 5 speed
Cons: lack of power windows in the rear doors
Advice: k&n air filter and mobil synthetic oili live in denver..thin air..cars don't run that good here..i invested in a k&n air filter..very wise move on my behalf..more torque and more horsepower..my commute to and from work is 35 miles..i'm averaging 32 miles per gallon..why??? the k&n air filter..well worth the $45.00 investment
Cons: gas mileage
Advice: get a five speedWe traded a 99'cougar on a 2002 sxt neon and I like the car over all except they talked my wife into a auto and I would rather have a stick in a four cyl. The car drives great but the gas mileage we're getting is no better than my V8 Dakota, we're getting about 200 miles out of a tank, hoping it gets better after the engine breaks in alittle. Car handles great in the corners. Car is comfortable on long drives,we drove it to West VA about 700 miles total. Should have the 150hp in all models, It needs more than 132hp, It's hard to keep the rpm's up with the automatic.
Pros: Large amount of room in the front seat area.
Cons: The seat belts are not comfortable.
Advice: Check the car out really good and bring it back promptly if you experience problems. The Dodge Neon dies out when idling at stop lights or drive thru's at times. There is a noice coming from the engine or automatic transmission at around 35 miles per hour.
Pros: The way the car handles.
Cons: No factory cd player? Who owns tapes anymore?
Advice: Take one for a spin. You will be suprised by the performance of this American compact. My second Neon. The 2002 ACR replaced a 1999 Highline. Let me say the second generation has a much better build quality. The Magnum 2.0 has about the best horsepower and torque for a car of its price. The handling is unbelievable on the ACR trim. Fully adjustable struts, larger front sway bar, addition of a rear sway bar, stiffer springs, and a 16:1 rack make this car awesome on the curves. Very fun to drive, although the car really needs a 6th speed (overdrive) to help with fuel economy considering the 3.94 final drive, and to help keep engine noise down. Thankfully D/C added full frame doors and killed the wind noise problem of the first generation Neons. After driving one for several months I know why they win so many SCCA events.
