Excellent/Reliable Vehicle
Pros: Relaibility
Cons: Size - Too long
No major repairs in 90K miles. Just keeps on going with only regular maintenance.Pros: The performance and handling as well as the chrome wheels and the fin on the trunk.
Cons: The price of the tires.
Advice: This is an awesome vehicle to own, comfortable and roomy.
I absolutely love the look of my Intrepid and the many comments I receive on it. When it is cleaned up the chrome wheels are a quality that brings out the styling of the car. It is the first Dodge I have ever owned and I am extremely happy with it.Pros: Room - tons of it!
Cons: No V-8 or manual transmission
Advice: If you like an 'enthusiastic' drive then avoid the 2.7L
This car is very roomy! Even my 250# 6'3' frame fits easily front or back and along with 5 big adult seating it's hard to compare that to anything short of a Crown Vic or big Caddy. A power driver's seat with lumbar support and tilt wheel let almost anybody drive in comfort. The back seat folds down - 60/40/100 - for 8' boards or skis (but protect the seats when doing this). The 3.5L V-6 has plenty of oomph and really shows it's stuff on the freeway with good MPG. In the curves the steering and suspension make this car handle like a much smaller car and the sleek, low profile design of the exterior emphasizes that impression. The dash is clean and easy to read with white-faced analogue gauges and dark gray surround. The Autostick is a great option (standard on R/T) for the part-time enthusiast allowing both 'D' mode for ho-hum rush-hour or manual shift mode (without a clutch) for the curvy country roads. In the two years that I've owned this car I had one small computer glitch that was fixed with one free trip to the dealer and no other problems. Overall, I highly recommend the Intrepid R/T for anybody that has a long commute, large frame, and/or a big family but likes a little spirited driving now and then. And if the styling and roominess doesn't hook you the price will ...Pros: The body style and roomy interior.(We do a lot of weekend trips w/ our 9 mo. old daughter.)
Cons: The many owner complaints on this vehicle.
Advice: I would say go for it! Some people, or in this case, many, will get a lemon, but I've had 2 Intrepids and I have to disagree w/ the others.
I absolutely love this car in all aspects.Although many other reviews from other Intrepid owners make me nervous, I went ahead and bought this 04 SE model. About a month ago, I owned a 1999 base model Intrepid with 98000 miles on it and the only thing that ever had to be fixed was the speed sensor and a new battery. Unfortunately, we totaled the car by getting rear-ended by a van on the highway just after hitting a deer. But, the insurance co. paid off the remaining $2200 we still owed on it and gave us cash for the value of the car-being at $4300. We then purchased this one with 64,000 miles on it. It has had one owner before us.Pros: Bold, Beautiful, Sleek Styling; a fast, powerful engine; sporty, but well composed handling.
Cons: It's FRONT Wheel Drive, which never had any advantage over RWD, as long as you knew HOW to drive.
Advice: Remember that the Intrepid R/T is NOT just another Intrepid... it's a special edition, and may cost a bit more - but, don't be talked into going too much higher.
I bought this car used - as the only real alternative to wanting the Charger DCX promised us since '99 - then failed to deliver. Once the new 2006 Charger was revealed - a poorly accepted design from'03, then called the Dodge 'Super-8', and re-named 'Charger' less than 4 months before production - I gave up on owning a modern Charger. The new car was fine - as a car, as a RWD car, as a nice handling and powerful car - but, ugly. Tragically ugly. It's a poor man's 300. Both great cars mechanically - but, with looks only gansters and rappers could love. Now, The Intrepid R/T on the other hand, is the car the '99 Charger-concept was originally being based on. Powerful, sleek and sexy curves, and road manners and handling that make you forget about how large and heavy the car really is. She may not have a Hemi... and she may be front-wheel drive (the ONLY real shortcoming to me)... but, other than those 2 points... THIS car was the re-emergence of a modern muscle sedan. (And, the Intrepid COULD have been made as a RWD w/ little effort. Both FWD & RWD Intrepids were originally planned for, until the morons at Daimler axed them when they 'merged' w/ Chrysler. Now, the only RWD Intrepids that were made WERE the race cars.)Pros: roomy interior
Cons: poor history of dodge chrysler service dependability
Advice: read online reviews my 2003's ac evaporator just died 900.00 to replace
can hear tires while driving noisy shiftPros: power
Cons: high back out rear window hard to see
Advice: test drive get one
