2014 Dodge Challenger
Changes for the 2014 Dodge Challenger:
Dodge adds a new Super Sport Package for the base Challenger, which includes a performance suspension, performance brakes, performance steering, paddle shifters, a quicker rear axle ratio, a Sport driving mode, and chrome 20-inch aluminum wheels. Buyers can make this package “Sinister” with Gloss Black wheels, if they prefer.
New options for the Challenger SXT include a power sunroof and a 6.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system. All Challengers except for the base SXT can be fitted with HID headlights, while the Challenger R/T Classic model adds premium leather and Alcantara seats with an embroidered “R/T” logo. New colors include Header Orange, Redline 3 Coat Pearl, Ivory Tri-Coat, and Phantom Black Tri-Coat.
Also note that the most powerful Challenger’s nameplate drops the “8” for 2014. It is now called the Challenger SRT, and it comes standard with launch control this year.
Model Lineup:
The 2014 Dodge Challenger lineup includes three main model series: SXT, R/T, and SRT. The SXT models have a 3.6-liter V-6 engine, the R/T models have a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, and the SRT models have a 6.4-liter V-8 engine.
Within each model series, sub-trims and special models exist. The SXT lineup includes the standard SXT, the leather-equipped SXT Plus, and the Rallye Redline model. The R/T lineup includes the standard R/T, the leather-lined R/T Plus, the R/T Redline, and the R/T Classic. A Blacktop Package with blacked-out exterior trim and a Super Track Pak of high-performance components is also offered for the Challenger R/T. The high-powered Challenger SRT is offered in stripped-down Core trim, or as the SRT 392 model.
Engines and Transmissions:
The Challenger SXT models have a 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. A more powerful 372-horsepower, 5.7-liter “Hemi” V-8 engine comes standard in the Challenger R/T models, and if you swap the automatic transmission for a 6-speed manual gearbox, the engine generates 375 horsepower. The Challenger SRT models have a 475-horsepower, 6.4-liter “Hemi” V-8 and a 6-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed automatic is available for the SRT. All Challenger models are rear-wheel drive.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
Based on EPA fuel economy estimates, the Challenger SXT models return 21 mpg in combined driving, the Challenger R/T models get 18 mpg, and the Challenger SRT models provide 17 mpg. A $1,000 gas-guzzler tax is added to the SRT’s price.
Safety Ratings:
The 2014 Challenger receives a 5-star overall crash-test rating* from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Take note, though, that the side-impact pole test produced a 2-star protection rating, and that the Challenger’s door became unlatched in the side-impact test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not conducted crash tests on the Challenger.

Technology Highlights:
The Challenger is not as low-tech as its styling might suggest, offered with a touchscreen infotainment and navigation system, Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming with voice command technology, and keyless entry with push-button ignition. Launch control is standard for the 2014 Challenger SRT models.
