Changes for the 2014 Dodge Avenger:

The Avenger SE with the 4-cylinder engine can now be fitted with a choice between a Blacktop Package and a Rallye Package, each designed to add style at an affordable price point.

Model Lineup:

For 2014, the Avenger midsize sedan lineup includes SE, SXT, and R/T trim levels. In addition to standard equipment, the SXT model includes automatic climate control, a vehicle information center, a compass and an outside temperature display, an upgraded stereo with one year of free satellite radio, LED interior lighting, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The Avenger SXT also has 17-inch aluminum wheels, fog lights, automatic headlights, and heated outside mirrors.

A Blacktop Package or a Rallye Package can be added to the SE and SXT models. They contain 18-inch aluminum wheels, smoked headlights, and a body-color rear spoiler. The Blacktop Package includes a black grille and black wheels, while the Rallye Package supplies painted wheels and a body-color grille.

The Avenger R/T includes a V-6 engine, remote engine starting, a sport suspension, upgraded steering, a body-color grille, and unique 18-inch polished aluminum wheels. Inside, this model has red accent stitching, special instrumentation with a center-mounted tachometer, Z-striped cloth seat inserts with leather bolsters, perforated leather wrapped around the steering wheel, and a premium headliner. Heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a universal garage door opener are also standard, along with a premium audio system and Uconnect touchscreen technology with Bluetooth streaming audio, a USB port, and a hard-drive music server.

Options, depending on the trim level, include chrome wheels, leather seats, heated front seats, a navigation system, remote engine starting, and a power sunroof.

Engines and Transmissions:

A 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard for the SE and SXT models, paired with a 4-speed automatic in the SE and a 6-speed automatic in the SXT. Optional for these models, and standard in the Avenger R/T, a 3.6-liter V-6 engine makes 283 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic is included with the V-6 engine.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

In combined driving, the Avenger’s standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is rated to get 24 mpg, regardless of transmission choice. The much more powerful V-6 engine returns 22 mpg.

Safety Ratings:

In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Avenger gets an overall rating of 4 stars. Note that the front seat passenger protection rating is 3 stars in a frontal impact, the driver protection rating is 3 stars in a side impact, and a driver protection rating in the side-impact pole test is just 2 stars.

Given this performance, it might be surprisingly to learn that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the Avenger its best rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” thanks to the car’s impressive performance in the tough new small overlap frontal-impact test.

Technology Highlights:

The most technologically advanced feature for the 2014 Avenger is the available Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth music streaming.
