The 2024 Chevrolet Trax is all-new this year with a long list of improvements. There are lots of crossovers on the market, which can make it hard for any one to stand out. The Trax differentiates itself with sleek styling, a surprisingly upscale interior, and an affordable price.

It’s available in a range of five trims, all of which are priced under $25,000. This makes it a great choice for recent college grads looking for their first car or anyone who has a tight budget. Despite that budget pricing, it is comfortable, the standard features list is long, and it’s fun to drive. Here are the 10 best features of the 2024 Chevrolet Trax.

Affordable Price

The Chevrolet Trax is the base vehicle in the Chevy lineup sitting just below the Trailblazer SUV. It’s an entry-level car that’s ideal for those on a budget like recent graduates. Even better, it’s not just the base trim that’s well-priced, but the full lineup. All five trims are priced at under $25,000, making the Trax an incredible value.

Pricing starts at $21,495 for the base LS, which puts it in the same territory as entry-level sedans. The midrange 1RS is $23,195 with the LT coming in at $23,395. The Trax tops out at $24,995 for both the Active and 2RS trims. It’s hard to beat that kind of pricing. Those looking for an attractive, well-equipped crossover with great style and plenty of personality will find the 2024 Chevrolet Trax hold plenty of appeal.

Trims With Unique Personalities

Sometimes a trim level just adds amenities to create a more premium experience for passengers. While the trims in the Trax do add features as you go through the lineup, they also add unique design elements that create distinct personalities for each trim. The base LS and LT are more minimalist with 17-inch wheels that are either steel or aluminum.

The RS trims take a sporty approach with more aggressive exterior elements that include a unique grille, RS badging, and either 18-inch or 19-inch machine-faced aluminum wheels. Finally, the Active, which sits at the top of the lineup, gets premium elements including chrome accents, a rear skid plate motif, and black 18-inch wheels.

More Room for People

The Trax isn’t a full-size SUV, so it’s not ideal for large families. This is a crossover that targets those who want a bit more room but still want to keep things compact. The previous generation of the Trax was perhaps a bit too compact with tight rear seats that made it a challenge to take friends along for longer drives. This new generation of the Trax takes care of that problem with a roomier interior.

It’s bigger on the outside with a wheelbase that grew by six inches and two additional inches of width. That translates to more shoulder room for everyone and more legroom for rear passengers. Anyone sitting in the back has an extra three inches of legroom. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it can mean the difference between sitting comfortably or, especially for taller people, having your knees pressed awkwardly into the backs of the front seats.

More Room for Cargo

The larger dimensions of the new Trax also improve its cargo capacity, which is a big part of a crossover’s appeal. They can easily do double-duty managing people one minute and cargo the next. There is now 12 percent more room for cargo in your Trax than there was last year.

With the rear seats up, there’s 25.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Flip those seats down and that number increases to 54.1 cubic feet. That’s plenty of room for carrying cargo whether it’s the weekly groceries, luggage, or supplies for a project. There’s also a low load floor and wide tailgate opening so stowing heavy, bulky items is easier. The extra cargo room in the new Trax makes it a more versatile crossover that’s ready to handle changing priorities from one day to the next.

A Fuel-Efficient Engine

Power for the Trax comes from a 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder with 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. This is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s not a high horsepower engine, but it is responsive. Press on the gas and it easily gets up to speed for easy merging into highway traffic. It’s more responsive than you’d expect with such a small engine, which is a nice surprise.

In addition to being a fun little crossover, the Trax gets good fuel economy with an EPA-rated 28 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined. Those figures make it easy to budget for gas even when prices rise. Anyone who has a long commute or lots of road trips in their future will appreciate the lower gas bill that comes with the Trax.

A Smooth, Quiet Ride

The ride in the Chevy Trax is smooth and well-mannered, making short work of rough roads and pebbled pavement. There’s a minimum of road noise that intrudes into the cabin, so it’s less tiring to take the Trax on long drives. The interior is comfortable, quiet, and ideal for road trips.

Noise outside the cabin, whether passing trucks on the highway or the background racket that comes with heavy rain, is kept outside the glass. This makes conversation easy with rear-seat passengers and, if kids are along for the ride, lets them sleep in peace.

Available 11.3-inch Infotainment Touchscreen

A large touchscreen helps make an infotainment system easier to use. Icons are easier to identify at a glance and navigation is easier to follow, especially when the streets are closely spaced and confusing, as they often are in large cities. The Trax has a standard 8-inch touchscreen along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 4-speaker audio system. Once you reach the mid-range LT, the system gets an upgrade.

That upgrade includes an 11.3-inch touchscreen and 6-speaker audio along with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. The two together give the Trax a more premium look and feel. Remember, this car comes in at under $25K. That’s a bargain price, but this is not a bargain infotainment system. It’s great in base trims with an upgrade coming early in the lineup rather than requiring a jump to the top trim level.

Standard Chevy Safety Assist

The Trax is an entry-level car so it doesn’t have some of the more advanced driver assistance features available on more expensive cars. That doesn’t mean Chevy dropped the ball when it came to safety. Every Trax features Chevy Safety Assist. This safety suite includes six key features. There’s automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, forward collision alert, automatic high beams, and follow distance indicator.

That’s an impressive offering to include in a car at this price point with the features you need to set your mind at ease. Also available is adaptive cruise control, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist.

Striking Exterior Design

Chevrolet Trax gets a whole new look that makes it a far more appealing crossover. It makes a stronger first impression, partly due to its improved width that gives it a bolder, more confident stance. There are lots of horizontal lines up front that help emphasize that width along with headlamps inspired by the Blazer and new LED lighting.

Despite the longer length and width, the Trax is now shorter in height by about four inches. This further adds to its sporty design, giving it a low, aggressive appearance. Especially when taken in profile, the new Trax looks thoroughly fresh and modern, especially compared to the outgoing generation.

Great Accessory Options

The Trax is a versatile vehicle that’s ready to manage whatever combination of people and cargo you have in mind for the day. Its features are great, but what if you want a little more? Well, the are some great accessories that you can add to your Trax to make it more workable for your lifestyle. If cargo is a priority, then there’s an available cargo net and cargo liner. This keeps small items tidy and protects the interior from messes.

Those with an active lifestyle will appreciate the removable roof rack with cross rails so you can take along your skis or whatever else you need for a day of fun. And if that active lifestyle includes mud and muck, there are all-weather floor mats and contoured floor liners to ensure your Trax keeps looking good.
