Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Cons: ACCELERATING WHEN STOPPED
Advice: TEST DIVE A CAR BEFORE PURCHASINGTHE TRUCKS RIDE AND COMFORT ARE GREAT. THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR IS VERY STYLISH, THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH IT IS WHEN ACCELERATING AT A LIGHT IT FEELS LIKE IT NEEDS ALOT OF POWER TO MOVE (BUT THIS ONLY SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MINE. I TEST DROVE ANOTHER TB AT A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND THAT HAD WAY LESS NOISE THAN MINE.)
Pros: Strong quiet engine
Cons: Rusting at lower door seams and front of hood after only 18 months of ownership
Advice: Due to rusting issue, look elsewhere if you hope to keep your truck for 5 years or moreHad hoped to keep this vehicle 8 years or more as it has been mechanically trouble-free. However, after 2 Michigan winters and only 18 months of ownership, it started to rust at all four of the lower door seams and the under inner edge of the hood! The most recent third MI winter has only worsened the rusting eventhough the dealer attempted to repair the rust last summer while the truck was still under warranty. Now off warranty, Chevrolet is willing to replace all four doors...but this will this fix the problem or just create new ones? Looking for a different 2004 model. Date of report: 4/21/04
Pros: the paint color
Cons: all the mechanical problems
Advice: NO NO NOThis was the worst car I've ever purchased. I had problems too numerous to mention. Transmission, power steering, front axle seals, drive shaft, paint peeling, alternator.....horrible horrible horrible.
Pros: engine pick-up
Advice: My brakes went at 24K had to replace rotors also, Chevrolet says this is normal I won't own this car at 40,000miles.I have had this vehichle for 26,000 and it has been a good performer.
Pros: The ride is good.
Cons: Recalls and gas mileage.
Advice: Look at Consumer's Report ratingsTwo recalls since Feb. 2001. A very serious recall in where a fuel fitting may become disconnected. This is a quote from Chevrolet in the letter I received, on September 2002, some 7 months after I was driving this SUV. ' If an ignition source were present, fuel leakage from a disconnected fuel filter could result in a fire.' How would you like to be driving in traffic when or if that occured? I listened to way to much Hpye on this vechile.
Pros: Ride is so-so, 4WD when fixed worked ok
Cons: All the problems before the first year
Advice: Do yourself a favor and check out consumer reports. Probably wouldn't have bought the car then.I must say the drive was very different than from owning this vehicle. This is my mothers car The ride is ok, but bumps and ripples and uneven pavement come through. The car really has had more problems than expected. The problems within the first 11 months: 1. 2 recalls 2. 4-wheel drive unit went wacked and had to be replaced 3. seat belt light appeared on all the time 4. air bag light appeared on all the time 5. the car makes very strange noises when driving, esp. the brakes? I myself hate the car. Very poor reliability.
Pros: acceleration and handling
Cons: no key lock on passenger side
Advice: Test drive others then buy this one.Much more nimble than my previous two suburbans.Acceleration is incredible for a suv.Probably the most car-like ride for a suv of this size. The 'truckiness',is hardly apparent as compared to a Ford explorer I also own.The quality of fit and constuction, considering the value for the money, should make this a top of the list consideration.
