    2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Z71 4x4 Regular Cab 6.5' Box

    Pros: Locking rear deferential.

Cons: It could use a couples inches more ground clearance in stock form.

Advice: Look at the 5 year cost of ownership its about 5-6 thousand dollars less.

I purchased my silverado in July 2004. It has the Z71 offroad package leather interior onstar Bose sound and XM radio. In considering which truck to purchase power and fuel economy are equaly important to me. I added a Flowmaster muffler and Fram airhog filter. I get 18-20 MPG on short trips and over 22 on longer freeway trips. This is with the 5.3L (327CI) V8. Power is Near musclecar level. The Silverado had a hydoform steel frame which is box sectioned, coated is wax for rust prevention and has 7 crossmembers. It is extremly rigid and strong and this contributes to a quite ride and good handling. The frame structure also saves about 500 pounds of weight while providing this strength. The Silverado engine, frame and features are the product of many years of refinment. I think that it is superior to the new Nissan Titian in many key areas.

    2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - LS 4x2 Extended Cab 6.5' Box

Pros: The ride and all the features and the look of the inside

    Cons: The Gas Mileage

Advice: Check out the LS with bucket seats if you dont want leather

I bought the Silverado LS with bucket seats and it comes with everything the LT has except the leather. Has the Onstar/XM radio with the phone, heated mirrors with signals and full bose system and full hitch package and steering wheel controls. Duel Climate control and driver 6 way electic adusting seat. What a awsome deal. Even got it with the Billit grill. Shop the Internet. I have test driven just about all of the trucks out there. The Dodge is too bulky and the Ford is too plain and both of them ride rough with a empty load.

    2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Z71 4x4 Crew Cab

    Pros: Satellite radio

    Cons: not a thing

Advice: Buy it if you want the best pick up on the market.

I have owned the vehicle for 2 weeks and cannot find any fault with it. Best Pickup I have ever owned. First tank of gas averaged 20 mpg with several break in runs from 20 to 80 mph at full throttle. Ride is excellent and smooth. Lots of power compared to my 1997 Tahoe with a 350.

    2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Z71 4x4 Crew Cab

    Pros: Crew Cab

Cons: No lumbar support for driver at this trim level

Advice: Nice truck with a lot of interior room. Small bed if you are looking to haul much of a load.

I realy like this truck. Had driven Toyota Tundras for the last 4 years, but Toyota wouldn't give me he deal that got from Chevy. This truck has plenty of room for my family of five. Good power, handles really well, quiet and smooth ride. Only had the truck for 3 weeks, so I will have to see about the quality compared to the Toyotas.

    2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - LT 4x2 Extended Cab 6.5' Box

    Pros: Performance

Cons: The lighting package on the roof (minor detail)

Advice: Be sure to have intermediate steering shaft checked around 20k miles. Small rattle in front end will develop and component replacement is required.

When comparing the Chevy Silverado LS and LT, there is a world of difference. Most of the comfort / convience are equipped on the LS but the LT really raises the bar. The seating, instrument layout and the Bose sound system is a great combo. The LT (4x4) I test drove and bought came had smooth acceleration, even braking and with the Quadrasteer (4 wheel steering) option was nice. It is incredible to experience the Quadrasteer difference when driving, parking and backing up. A large truck that handles with the steering capabilities of an intermediate sedan. Almost forgot to mention the XM Radio and OnStar features. The whole package really creates a great driving experience.
