Pros: COMFORTABLE INTERIOR
Cons: FUEL GAUGE MISREADS, CAUSED ACCIDENT. BAD GM!
Advice: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME- BUY FORD.
SMOOTH BUT DEFINATELY RIDES LIKE A TRUCK. THE 2.2L 4CYL IS UNDERPOWERED FOR THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THE S-10.Pros: interior
Cons: the engine is under powered.
Advice: get the 4.3
i've owned two s-10s an 1989, 1998. the 89 had 230,000 miles and never spent one day in the shop, the guy i sold it to still drives it problem free. my 98 has 48,000 miles and has been in the shop 7 times. everytime it's something new. the 89 had the 4.3 the 98 had the 2.2 do yourself a favor and get the 4.3Pros: the power and mileage of the 4.3 vortec engine
Cons: the ride(might have to much air in the tires-will check today)
Advice: GO FOR IT!!! the price is right and it's a nice little truck
just purchased this s-10 ex-cab, with the 4.3 vortec. power to spare. i'm 6'3' and 280 lbs. plenty of room(with the tilt wheel), great gas mileage, and a good looker. had an 87 jeep comanche with 290,000 mi.(it finally died)Pros: looks
Cons: steering
Advice: test drive the vehicle on straight roads in both left and right lanes. test at least 10-15 miles so engine is warm. note idel when cold and idle when warm. pay attention to what might irk you the most once you drive it off the lot.
Bought new S-10 ZR2. Idle is rough. Had the front end re- aligned at 800 miles as the truck pulled to the right. Now the steering wheel is off center to the left at about 25-30 deg. has to go back in. I have 2000 miles on it. city so far about 11-12 Mpg and hi-way 17-18. rated 15 city and 20 hi-way. Needs more break in time I guess. gets tireing driving with the steering pulling. The 4 wheel disk breaks are great. Power could be improved. 190 Hp doesn't do it justice. Any one have similar problems? .Pros: 4.3Liter power
Cons: GoodYear Wrangler tires
Advice: buy it.. you'll love it!! : )
just bought mine today...LOVE IT !!!! traded a 95 Lumina APV in.. and own a 91 S-10 4x4 std cab as a work truck.. this one is the crew cab and the wife has staked claim on it already..the only thing i dont care for is the wrangler tires... come on you guys at GM ... use BF Goodrich already!!Pros: Great Looks-extended cab
Cons: Lack of power, poor mileage
Advice: Get the 4.3, same mileage with much better performance
Purchased a new (2002 Ext Cab, 2WD) S-10 as a cheap commuter/work truck. It was to replace an aging VW diesel pickup. The salesman explaned the S-10 could be expected to deliver 28-30 mpg on the road and 25 in town. Vehicle is equipped with 2.2 Flex (Isuzu engine) and 5 speed manual. The S-10 actually delivers 20-21 mpg in town and 25 mpg on the road. On top of the disappointing mileage, it is underpowered, not much better than the dreaded VW diesel. With a 1/2 Yard of topsoil in the back (+/- 800 lbs), the truck sags badly and the brakes are not nearly as effective as when unladen. I have owned several Chevy pickups, from a LUV to 1 Ton's, and this one is unacceptable. It is for sale. I should have got a V6...Pros: easy to use controls
Cons: having to leave it in the shop to be fixed
Advice: ask about any service problems that chevy knows about
Should fuel injectors blow after 3 months? I had one of them go, and then 18 days later, another one blew as well as the main fuel body. Just under 4 months old and a little under 7000 miles. And it's starting to run rough again. Makes you wonder. Whatever you do, make sure you get the extra warranty...you'll need it with this version of the S-10.
