Black Maxx - Great car! It's what I didn't think
Pros: Driving positions (I am tall) and roadability. It really is an easy car to live with.
Cons: Gas mileage. Awful around town (13-14 mpg); highway (23-26). Got 30 mpg once but I really had to softshoe it. Also, I'd like a 24v engine and a manual trans with at least 5 forward spd and AWD would be nice.Between health and other problems, I got dropped into an uncomfortable position, financially. That improved somewhat when SSI retirement gave me an assist. I had rented Malibu Maxxes when I needed to travel and was quite impressed with their utility. A local Chevy dealer was going belly-up after about 4 or 5 decades. They had this black SS which caught my attention. Long story short, after some discussion, I got it for 25K, 0%down, 0% interest. Been a long time since I had anything close to a new car; and this really wasn't brand new since it was '06 and I got it in '07. The next year ('08) they discontinued Maxx which is really a Saab with Chevy running gear. Car gets terrible mileage around town (big engine?!), but it is a dream to drive. Handles extraordinarily well, terrifically stable, comfortable inside, adaptable to any need. I believe Chev should have done a major blitz on Maxx. They did not. I got 28+ mpg when I rented the regular Maxx (on the highway at 70+ mph).
best in its class & highly recomended
Pros: Remote start, gas milage, power to go,slide sunroof & rear moon roof.rear seat room & comfort.
Cons: rear seat area not very sound proof for outside noise. All owner useable comfort features e.g.(every thing you need) remarkable gas milage without sacrificing all the power one needs to get -n-go ( 3.5L,V6)
Cons: fghghhgGodd dependadly car
Pros: SS specific bodywork (the front is sharp looking!)
Cons: Bought mine without the sunroof...kinda wish i had one now
Advice: Compared with imports of the same class - this is the value leader!Purchased a 2006 Malibu SS sedan. Very capable machine with nice amenities without being overpriced!
Pros: 327 small block engine
Cons: No aftermarket parts available yet
Advice: Strong buyI looked at and drove the hemi charger, ford mustang gt, and the impala ss. the charger was nice but felt like a lead sled. the mustang was very likable and would have won my heart but I desired more space. The impala ss was my choice and I am very happy with it. First of all the interior looks like it came out of a luxury car costing substantially more. I opted for the leather and bose and power heated mirror package did not want the sunroof because of aerodynamic reasons when you open it. The new body style makes the car look like a nascar from the front and at night the tail lights have a jewel like look to them very cool. The fit and finish is first class, and the doors and trunk and hood operation couldn't be better. I have owned over 100 cars over the years both foreign and domestic but this car impressed me as a genuine value. I took the car for a test drive and bought it. The impala handles like a sports car, the suspension smooths out the road without vibrations or noise. Inside the car is quiet the bose system is top shelf, the controls have a quality feel. The standard features and options like remote start, air bags, day/night mirror, folding rear seats, heated outside mirrors and onstar make the car very user friendly. I love the acceleration and nible feel of this car and especially like the sound of the exhaust. I have had no problems at all and don't expect to the quality can be felt when you drive the car its solid. The engine is so smooth that if you couldn't hear the exhaut you wouldn't know the car was running. To sum it up in 3 words this new impala ss is solid, smooth and powerful. As for the rear wheel drive front wheel drive argument I like the front wheel drive because the engine power goes straight to the wheels and no power is lost when you make a 90 degree turn through a rear axle. Ask any owner of any late model impala and you'll find that gm's front wheel drive is just about perfected and the reliability is above average. My friends all love the car and want to race to that extent I am not surprised after all what racer wouldn't pick an ss to test their car against
