Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The style and the comfort and color
Cons: can't find anything yet
Advice: buy itThe first test drive I took in the Impala SS was really accidental. I went in looking for a Malibu LTZ and my wife and I saw the Laser Blue Impala SS and said we had to come back to lot when it was open and ask about it. So we were back the next day and bought it that night. I know that alot of you traded in cars like mini vans and suv's on this, but believe me when I tell you I traded a 2000 Camaro SS in on this car and I enjoy driving this more than I did my Camaro. I also own a 96 Suburban and an 84 Corvette.
Pros: gas pedal,bose,wheels...
Cons: speeding tickets
Advice: change oil every 3000 miles.take 2006 impala ss for a test drive, and you will and up buying it, just like me.
Pros: The exterior design is great!
Cons: The cup holder.
Advice: If you don't drink beverages as you driveI love the exterior styling, the way it handles and the driving experience. What I don't like is the cup holder which might as well be nonexistent. When making a normal turn, my water bottle goes flying into the passenger seat. I wouldn't dare put a cup of coffee in that cup holder. And, I don't like the seats as well as the bucket seats in my 2002 Impala. I've had mine since 11/25 and on 12/17, I popped the truck lid, lifted it and the plastic 'truck shocks' came flying out at me--broken plastic pieces. I was not a happy camper, especially since the parts had to be ordered. There are some minor problems that need to be addressed for the 2007 year. Do other cars have plastic truck shocks????
Pros: High output of engine
Cons: Front wheel drive on a muscle car?
Advice: Fastest car for the money - by far. After driving a Ford v8 SHO for years, I was looking for a similar feel in a new car. The Impala SS goes way beyong where the Taurus SHO left-off. The Impala SS is faster, more powerful off the line, and feels much lighter on its feet. The steering is a little crazy, when you drive it hard and the ride remains a bit stiff (but is certainly needed to deal with the 303 horses). Nonetheless, I am impressed with the overall package and feel that this will be the leader in its class. The only real competition is the Hemi 300, but you pay way more for the same features. I would have liked just a bit more sport and muscle in the styling of the body. As with most Impalas, there will be many taxi cabs and police cars sharing the road with the SS, so I would have liked the SS to stand out a bit more. The bigger wheels and SS badges are not enough to set it apart. Otherwise a BIG winner for GM.
Pros: 303HP V8 Engine. Has a Luxury and solid quality feel.
Cons: Rear visiblity lacking when backing up.
Advice: Photos didn't do it justice, see it for youself then test drive this baby!I'm a Chevy loyalist and I've been waiting for years for the return the V8 SS models. My previous car was a 2001 Impala LS. The 2006 Impala styling is sleeker than the previous models and closer inspection reveals the quality and workmanship that is performed by the award winning OSHAWA, Ontario assembly plant. Nice job guys! The SS emblems and rumble of the tuned duel exhaust once the engine is turned over is the first hint that this isn’t just any 4 door family sedan. The Impala SS rides smooth, has precise steering, and sharp handling. It has the feel of a luxury car and with the fold down rear seats can haul long stuff like a mini van. The V8 has power of a muscle car of days gone past and the rush of full throttle in the Impala SS is a true treat. This car is a stealth warrior and blow away challenges from Camry’s and Accord’s. Chevy says the V8 in this years SS makes it the fastest high-performance Impala SS in Chevy history. 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds -believe it. The Impala is nicely equipped with many standard options. My Impala included a XM AM./FM/XM satellite radio with disc CD and 8 speaker Bose system, 18” wheels, leather seating, sunroof , and a convenience package (heated outside mirrors, universal home remote, etc).
Pros: Fit and Finish - Comfort - Safety!
Cons: All the questions
Advice: Drive it and don't judge by what you hear or readWe have owned our new SS for over a month now and we're even happier with it than we thought we would be, which is saying a lot because we loved the car at first drive. The only reason this car isn't ideal is the FWD. There is no issue with the way it handles at all, fantastic as a matter of fact, but you do need to keep your foot out of it unless you are prepared to pay attention! It has some great scoot to it! We are long-time 'other' drivers, this car brought us home! A real head turner!
Pros: Handling and Acceleration
Cons: The sunroof was not included in the price.
Advice: Don't listen to earlier reviews. You have to see this vehicle for yourself.I bought the 2006 because I could not find the color I wanted in 2005 (medium/gray) and I wanted a car that was both sporty and luxurious. I also wanted the new body style and features. I took a chance and I am glad I did. I traded in my 2002 Ford Explorer and never looked back. The car handles tight curves well and is very quiet and roomy. If you are considering the Bose system system and the leather interior you won't be dissapointed. The pictures of the car don't do it justice you have to see this car up close to appreciate it's slick styling. I drove SUV's for over ten years. After driving this car I don't miss them.
