Changes for the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox:

After giving the Equinox a substantial mid-life update for 2013, the 2014 Equinox carries over with few changes. Chrome wheel trim is now standard for the LTZ model, and new paint colors include Red Rock Metallic and Silver Topaz Metallic.

Model Lineup:

Chevrolet sells the 2014 Equinox in LS, LT, and LTZ trim levels. Upgrading to LT trim adds nicer interior fabric and trim, heated exterior mirrors, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, roof rack rails, a reversing camera, and a Chevrolet MyLink radio with a 7-inch color touchscreen display. A 2LT trim package improves upon this with heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, remote engine starting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and fog lights. The 2LT trim package also adds a premium sound system and automatic climate control.

Choose the Equinox LTZ, and this crossover SUV comes with perforated leather upholstery, memory for the driver’s settings, an 8-way power front passenger’s seat, a power rear liftgate, and a universal garage door opener. Extra chrome trim sets the LTZ apart from other Equinox models, along with chrome-clad wheels, upgraded headlights, body-color bumpers, and improved interior lighting. This model also comes standard with a Safety Package containing a Forward Collision Alert system, a Lane Departure Warning system, and a Rear Park Assist system.

Engines and Transmissions:

A 182-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard equipment for all 2014 Equinox models, while a 3.6-liter V-6 engine is optional. The V-6 generates 119 extra horsepower and 100 lb.-ft. more torque than the standard 4-cylinder engine, for totals of 301 and 272, respectively. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

According to the EPA, in combined driving the standard 4-cylinder engine returns 26 mpg with front-wheel drive and 23 mpg with AWD. The optional V-6 is rated to get 20 mpg with front-wheel drive and 19 mpg with AWD.

Safety Ratings:

In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 Chevy Equinox gets a 4-star overall protection rating, with 4-star or 5-star ratings in each individual assessment. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not officially rated the 2014 Equinox as this summary is written. The virtually identical 2013 model was named a “Top Safety Pick” last year, though it had not been subjected to the tough new small overlap frontal-impact test.

Technology Highlights:

All 2014 Chevrolet Equinox models are equipped with OnStar telematics and include a free 6-month subscription to services including Automatic Crash Response, Crisis Assist, and an available Family Link location-sharing feature. A RemoteLink mobile application allows owners to access certain OnStar features from a smartphone.

Chevrolet MyLink technology is standard for Equinox LT and LTZ models. It includes Bluetooth connectivity and voice-activated control over system and paired smartphone features. MyLink can be upgraded with a navigation system.

Safety technology includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Alert. A Side Blind Zone Alert system is not offered for the Equinox.
