When it’s time to purchase a new car, what do you do with your old car?

True, if you currently own a vehicle like the Jeep Wrangler—the top-rated choice in KBB.com’s 2012 Best Resale Value Awards—you can count on getting top dollar when it’s time to make your next automotive purchase. But the fact of the matter is that not everyone is interested in selling their old rides when they get into new ones. According to Autobytel’s most recent poll, more than 26 percent of today’s new-car customers decide to donate, keep or pass their vehicles on to their family or friends, with another 30 percent looking to sell their older cars and trucks themselves, and more than 43 percent preferring to leave the matter in the hands of their local dealerships for trade-in purposes.
