Over time, the clarity of of your car’s finish can really take a beating, but there are ways to remove light scratches and other types of minor damage from your car’s clear coat, which will help the paint shine through again. In this Autobytel video, the latest in the Meguiar’s car care series, you’ll get an overview of the different kinds of tools that are available to apply products that help restore your car’s finish. There are three ways to apply compounds, polishes and waxes to your vehicle, and those are the products you’ll need to spruce up your headlights. These products can be applied by hand, which is a satisfying but tiring way to do it. It’s also one of the safest ways to use products that might contain abrasives, because it’s less likely you’ll use enough pressure to cause damage to the finish. There are also two different types of polishers that professionals use. They can be used at home, but might require some practice. Rotary polishers are aggressive and can cause damage in the wrong hands. It’s easy to get carried away with a rotary polisher, and notice too late that you’ve done more harm than good. Dual action polishers oscillate in addition to rotating, which provides more even results and gets the job done quickly.
