What Is The Acura Precision All-Wheel Steer System?

The Acura Precision All-Wheel Steer (or P-AWS) system is the first system that is able to independently adjust the toe angle of the rear wheels, allowing for fully independent rear steering.

When the front wheels are steered, the rear wheels can automatically pivot as much as 1.8 degrees in the same direction for smooth, stable, and quick lane changes. Alternatively, the rear wheels can also turn slightly in the opposite direction (in reverse phase) as the front wheels to help rotate the vehicle into the turn. Combined with Vehicle Stability Assist (also known as VSA) and the Agile Handling Assist system, which applies the brakes to both the front and rear inside wheels to help further pivot the car into a turn, P-AWS helps enhance maneuverability and control, leading to what Acura describes as ‘exceptional stability’ in turns.

The system also works when braking. When the brakes are applied at high speeds, the rear wheels angle inward in order to increase both stability and braking ability. At lower speeds, the reverse phase steering can also help the car maneuver in tight spaces and reduce its turning circle.
