Mercedes Blind Spot Assist is a system to monitor the blind spots on both side of the vehicle in order to make lane changes less dangerous. The system uses short-range radar sensors to monitor the areas of the vehicle not visible in the mirrors (11 ½ feet on both sides the vehicle and 10 feet behind the vehicle) at speeds above 18 mph. When a vehicle is detected a warning light is illuminated on the side mirrors. Visual and audible warnings will further warn of the danger if a vehicle is detected and the driver activates the turn signal to indicate a lane change. Blind Spot Assist can detect cars that are overtaking as well as cars merging into adjacent lanes. The system works at speeds of up to 124 mph, and can be easily enabled and disabled.
