Infiniti's Backup Collision Intervention (or BCI) system is designed to help make driving safer by detecting what the driver might otherwise miss when backing up. When the vehicle is placed into reverse sensors in the rear of the vehicle detect side traffic and large stationary objects in the path of the vehicle. When an object is detected the system uses an audible alert and flashing light to warn the driver and indicate the location of the obstacle. If the driver fails to stop the system will press the accelerator back up into the driver's foot to further notify them. If the driver still fails to respond the system will apply the brakes momentarily to get the driver's attention, however the driver must still bring the car to a stop manually.
