Ford MyKey is a system designed to promote safe driving, especially for teenagers and other young drivers. Available on many of Ford's vehicles including the Fiesta and Taurus, the system allows parents to program individual keys with different limitations and options. Parent's can choose to enable a more persistent Belt-Minder that mutes the car's stereo and displays a message until seat belts are buckled and a top speed setting that can limit the vehicle's top speed to 65, 70, 75, or 80 mph, with warning chimes at 45, 55, and 65 mph. The car can also be set to provide an earlier low-fuel warning (75 miles to empty instead of the standard 50), audio volume can be limited to 44% of maximum, and Sirius Satellite Radio stations marked as 'explicit' can be blocked. To avoid shenanigans the AdvanceTrac stability control system can be locked into the on position, prevent wheel spin. Ford hopes that the system will promote good driving habits, and lead to fewer driver distractions.
