What Is Audi Active Lane Assist?

Audi active lane assist is an evolution of the Audi lane assist system. Unlike the lane assist system which can only warn drivers when they leave their lane, the active lane assist system can help steer the car to keep it in its lane. The system uses a camera to detect lane markings of various types and colors and then processes the data to determine the vehicle's current direction and whether or not assistance is needed to keep the vehicle on course. If assistance is necessary the system uses a controlled steering torque to assist the driver in making a correction. If the active lane assist system detects that the driver has removed their hands from the steering wheel the system is disabled. The system can be configured using the car's MMI system to provide continuous assistance or to only provide assistance when necessary, and is temporarily deactivated when the turn signal is activated or when the system detects that the driver is deliberately turning the steering wheel to change lanes.
