Nissan and Infiniti’s Around View Monitor Review — ABTL Auto Extras

Nissan’s rolling out a new version of a back-up camera, and it’s called the Around View Monitor. Autobytel got a demonstration of Nissan’s new technology on a 2014 Infiniti QX70, and Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, T.J. Keon, explains how this new camera system works. The Around View Monitor is designed to assist with parking, but it’s got additional features that make it more useful than a regular back-up camera. The Around View Monitor system provides the driver with an idea of what’s going on, all the way around the car. The Around View Monitor system consists of four minuscule cameras that are placed around the car’s perimeter, and the cameras’ views are sent to the display in the center console. That way, the driver can see what’s going on behind the car, but also at the front and sides. The system also tracks moving objects around the car and can alert drivers to obstacles. Though the system’s capabilities are best demonstrated on a big SUV like the QX70, Nissan and Infiniti are adding the Around View Monitor across both brands’ entire model lineups. That means buyers can get this new safety system on Nissan’s subcompacts as well as Infiniti’s luxury sedans and sport utility vehicles.
