For 2015 the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service Vehicle (SSV) joins General Motor’s growing police line up. It will go on sale this summer, offering the same capabilities and durability as a regular Silverado 1500, but with special features designed for police use. The SSV package is available on Silverado 1500 Crew Cab models in 1WT or 1LS trims, in either two wheel drive or four wheel drive. The package includes the 5.3 liter EcoTec3 V8, rated at 355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft of torque, and 23 miles per gallon on the highway (in two wheel drive guise). The EcoTec3 engine is also capable of running on E85. The bed comes either in the standard 6’6” length, or in a shorter 5’8” box.

Special police upgrades include a standard 170 amp high-output alternator, a 730 cold cranking amp auxiliary battery, a 110 volt outlet, wiring for four upfitter switches located on the center stack, and an auxiliary transmission oil cooler. Optional features include a driver’s side or driver’s and passenger’s side spotlamps, wiring for lights and sirens, a flasher system for the headlamps and taillamps, a common key package, an electronic four wheel drive switch, daytime running lamp delete, and a rear-vision camera. The front center seat can be deleted to provide place for a center console filled with police equipment, and the rear seats are available in vinyl for easy cleanup. An optional auxiliary dome ‘ticket’ lamp completes the interior. Chevrolet will also offer ship-through options for the upfit of light bars, sirens, partitions and additional aftermarket equipment.

The SSV’s bed has all the same functionality as the consumer models, including the CornerStep bumper, built-in handholds, and upper tie down hooks. The Silverado 1500 is also equipped with Duralife brake rotors that last up to twice as long, and can help reduce maintenance costs. The Silverado also comes with the best warranty of any pickup, including two year / 24,000 mile recommended maintenance, three year /36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, and five year / 100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty, Roadside Assistance, and Courtesy Transportation.
