New Car Rebates and Incentives: May 28, 2012

Memorial Day weekend has come and gone but there remain more than a few enticing deals in the form of rebates and incentives out there designed to get potential buyers into showrooms before the month is over.  This week, we kick things off with the 2012 Ford Transit Connect compact van, which can be had with $500 cash back, followed by the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado Extended Cab mid-size truck and its offer of 1.9% financing or $2,000 in factory cash rebates.  The 2011 Dodge Avenger mid-size sedan makes its mark with a zero percent financing or $3,000 cash back offer, while the 2011 Lincoln Town Car full-size sedan clears out leftover inventory via an offer of 0.9% financing or $4,000 in cash back.  The last vehicle on our list is the 2012 Kia Forte 5-Door, which features 1.9% financing or the option of $1,000 cash back.

2012 Ford Transit Connect

The 2012 Ford Transit Connect is a compact van that is intended to serve as a small-footprint people mover that also does an excellent job as a cargo hauler.  The Ford Transit Connect can accommodate five passengers, and when its second row of seating is out of the picture the vehicle is capable of transporting roughly 135 cubic feet of gear.

The 2012 Ford Transit Connect is outfitted with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that develops 136 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque.  Fuel mileage for the van shows as 21-mpg around town and 23-mpg during highway cruising, and a four-speed automatic transmission is standard.

2012 Chevrolet Colorado Extended Cab

The 2012 Chevrolet Colorado Extended Cab is a mid-size pickup truck that offers seating for an additional three passengers behind the driver's position, accessible via a pair of small doors added to the vehicle's cab.  A six-foot cargo bed is standard, while a number of different options - including an off-road ready suspension system - can be ordered to customize the Chevrolet Colorado to its intended use.

The 2012 Chevrolet Colorado Extended Cab presents a trio of engine choices to truck shoppers.  The entry-level unit is a 2.9-liter, four-cylinder that generates 185 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque.  Next up is a five-cylinder motor that displaces 3.7-liters and offers up 242 horses and 242 lb-ft of torque.  The final entry is a 300 horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 that is also good for 320 lb-ft of torque.  Available transmissions include a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic, and four-wheel drive can be ordered as an option.  The most fuel efficient member of the Colorado engine family is the four-cylinder, posting an 18-mpg city and 25-mpg highway rating.

2012 Dodge Avenger

The 2012 Dodge Avenger is an aggressively-styled four-door family sedan option that competes in the mid-size segment.  The Dodge Avenger can even be ordered in R/T trim, which brings with it a stiffer suspension system, leather-trimmed seats, quicker steering and a higher level of interior equipment in an effort to impart the automobile with a sportier personality.

The 2012 Dodge Avenger starts out with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine under the hood that can be relied on to provide 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque.  This motor is shifted via either a four-speed or six-speed automatic transmission (depending on trim level), and returns fuel mileage numbers of 21-mpg in city driving and 31-mpg on the highway.  The Avenger is also available with a 3.6-liter V-6 that grinds out 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque on its way to fuel efficiency figures of 19-mpg around town and 29-mpg on the highway.  A six-speed automatic is the only gearbox available with the V-6.

2011 Lincoln Town Car

The 2011 Lincoln Town Car holds out as the last remaining body-on-frame sedan available to the general public.  The Lincoln Town Car can be had in regular and extended-wheelbase editions, and both models feature niceties such as heated leather upholstery, a spacious, power-operated trunk, dual automatic climate control, and six-passenger seating.

The 2011 Lincoln Town Car is sold with a 4.6-liter V-8 engine as its exclusive power plant.  Capable of generating 239 horses and 287 lb-ft of twist, this mill is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and provides a fuel economy rating of 16-mpg city and 24-mpg highway.

2012 Kia Forte 5-Door

The 2012 Kia Forte 5-Door is the hatchback edition of the Korean brand's popular compact car.  The Kia Forte 5-Door adds an extra degree of practicality to the equation, thanks to the availability of 44.2 cubic feet of total cargo space with the rear row of seating folded forward.  When outfitted with the SX trim's more robust suspension system the Forte 5-Door is also capable of putting a smile on the faces of performance-thirsty pilots.

The 2012 Kia Forte 5-Door's 2.0-liter, four-cylinder base engine can be counted on to produce 156 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque and offers fuel mileage of up to 27-mpg in city driving and 37-mpg on the highway.  The SX trim installs a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder motor that puts out 173 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque while dropping fuel mileage by five and six miles per gallon for each respective measure.  Transmission options for the Kia include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.
