New Car Rebates and Incentives: February 28, 2013

It's the last day of February, but there are still several rebates and incentives kicking around until the first week of March - or even beyond - on brand new cars and trucks.  Our list this week begins with the 2013 Ford Escape compact crossover, which can be had with the choice of either 0.9% financing plus $1,000 in cash back or an available $2,500 cash rebate.  Next up is the 2013 Toyota Highlander full-size crossover and its zero percent financing or $500 cash back deal, followed by the 2013 Chrysler 300 full-size sedan and its 0.0% financing or hefty $2,500 in factory cash.  The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee full-size SUV bows with a 1.9% percent financing or $500 cash back offer, while the 2013 Dodge Durango full-size SUV tops it via the choice of either zero percent financing plus $1,500 cash back or a total of $3,500 in cash rebates.

2013 Ford Escape

The 2013 Ford Escape is all-new for the current model year, and it offers sleek styling, the availability of technologies such as SYNC and MyFord Touch, and a number of high end options.  It also comes with a generous 68.1 cubic feet of total cargo space to complement its five passenger seating.

The 2013 Ford Escape gives buyers a choice of three different four-cylinder engines.  The base 2.5-liter mill generates 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque, while a turbocharged 1.6-liter upgrades the compact crossover with ten extra ponies and 17 additional lb-ft of twist.  The top-tier 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engine cranks out 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque.  Fuel mileage for the 1.6-liter leads the pack (23-mpg city and 33-mpg highway), a six-speed automatic transmission is included as standard equipment with ever Escape model, and all-wheel drive can be ordered above the base trim.

2013 Toyota Highlander - 0.0% or $500 - 04/01/2013

The 2013 Toyota Highlander courts family buyers with its combination of size, versatility, and comfort.  The Toyota Highlander features three rows of seating, giving it a total passenger capacity of seven, and with the rear accommodations out of the picture it can swallow up to 95.1 cubic feet of cargo.

The 2013 Toyota Highlander starts out with a 2.7-liter, four-cylinder engine under its hood, a unit that is good for 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.  Fuel mileage for this motor, which is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission, shows as 20-mpg around town and 25-mpg on the highway.  The Highlander can also be had with a 270 horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 that also generates 248 lb-ft of torque.  Fuel economy almost matches that of the smaller mill (18-mpg city and 24-mpg highway), and although it drops a forward cog from its automatic transmission it does make all-wheel drive available.

2013 Chrysler 300

The 2013 Chrysler 300 is a full-size sedan that makes a case as both a comfortable commuter car and a high performance premium model.  A number of luxury-oriented trims, such as the 300S and the 300C, make upscale features available at a variety of price points.

The 2013 Chrysler 300 benefits from the brand's Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 as its base engine.  The Pentastar is good for 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.  Standard on the 300C and optional on almost every other trim is a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that grinds out 363 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque, mated with a five-speed automatic.  Both engines can also be had with all-wheel drive, and the V-6 provides fuel economy of 19-mpg in city driving and 27-mpg on the highway.

2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee provides full-size SUV shoppers with a vehicle that isn't quite as long as some of its competitors, and which favors off-road credibility and maneuverability over maximum interior volume.  Still, the Jeep Grand Cherokee's five passenger seating offers respectable comfort, and 69 cubic feet of total cargo space is nothing to scoff at.

The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a 290 horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 as its base motor, and  5.7-liter Hemi V-8 rated at 360 ponies and 390 lb-ft of torque as its top-tier engine.  A five-speed automatic transmission comes with the V-6, while a six-speed is matched with the eight-cylinder motor.  More importantly, the Grand Cherokee can be outfitted with one of three four-wheel drive systems, with Quadra Drive II offering electronic limited-slip differentials, the Selec-Terrain terrain management system, and low-range gearing.  Fuel mileage for the Grand Cherokee is listed at 16-mpg city and 23-mpg highway for the V-6.

2013 Dodge Durango

The 2013 Dodge Durango is full-size SUV that actually shares its rear-wheel drive platform with the Grand Cherokee.  A key difference between the two vehicles - aside from the Durango's decidedly on-pavement orientation - is that the Dodge has been designed to handle seven passengers across three rows of seating, and it also comes with 84.5 cubic feet of interior room for hauling gear and luggage.

The 2013 Dodge Durango matches the Grand Cherokee note-for-note in the powertrain department, featuring the same 290 horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 and 360 horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 options.  Transmission choices are also identical, and despite its larger size the Durango equals the Jeep's six-cylinder fuel mileage.  Both all-wheel drive and low-range four-wheel drive can be added to the Durango's equipment list.
