Ever wonder what is an Sr22? While Sr-22 insurance isn’t necessarily a form of insurance people want by choice, it is a requirement by most states to prove that a certain individual has a certain level of auto insurance. Often, it is required by a judge or court after an individual has an accident or gets a DUI and doesn’t have the bare minimum of legally required insurance at the time. Without insurance, driving a car and getting to work is just about impossible.

What is Sr22 Auto Insurance?

Some insurance carriers do refer to their SR-22 auto insurance plans as “high risk insurance” for drivers who have had serious accidents with injured parties or a history of driving under the influence. Sr22 insurance coverage deals with the fact that the party buying it is a high risk client and often takes care of proving to the state that they are now properly insured and able to get on with driving again.

When to Get Sr22 Insurance

If you have ever had your license taken away, driven drunk or hit someone causing bodily injury while driving under the influence and were uninsured at the time you will absolutely have to file an SR-22 insurance form with the state for a certain number of years. Not to sound judgmental but after such behavior, your status as an SR-22 auto insurance client means you are pretty much an undesirable element with many insurance carriers. Not all insurance companies will cover SR-22 insurance clients.

What Sr22 Insurance Does

Now, everyone deserves a second chance to redeem himself or herself and getting SR-22 insurance coverage is the first step towards doing that in the eyes of your carrier and the law. Everyone has mistakes in their past and SR-22 auto insurance is in place to give a person a chance to redeem themselves.

Is Sr22 Insurance Forever?

After a few years of no accidents or other serious driving offenses, most individuals will no longer need to file SR-22 forms to their state to prove that they are insured and will no longer have to pay the higher premiums that are usually associated with Sr22 insurance coverage. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t look at the restrictive nature of SR-22 auto insurance coverage as something you will have to live with forever.

Having at least some form of liability auto insurance coverage is required by most states and if you have been involved in some form of accident of incident where you didn’t have any auto insurance, you will need to look into buying SR-22 auto insurance coverage because it will automatically file a form with your state proving that you are covered. The reason for this is because you have been identified by your state as a high-risk driver who is now legally obligated to prove via Sr22 insurance coverage that you are insured.

This is, of course, very serious and not something that should be ignored. Driving is a privilege and not a right and part of having that privilege involves being properly insured. Buying SR-22 auto insurance will insure that you will be able to enjoy that privilege for many years to come no matter what has happened in the past.
