10 Things You Need to Know About the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer

The Jeep Wagoneer makes its return for the 2022 model year, bringing back a much-loved nameplate. It returns as a premium, three-row SUV with the capability of a Jeep and all the features and refinement of a luxury car.

It also adds a full-size SUV with seating for up to eight people to the Jeep lineup, which is ideal for large families. Here are 10 things to know about the all-new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer.

Jeep is bringing back both the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer as part of a new family of three-row SUVs. While they have similar features and similar names, there are key differences between the two. For starters, the Wagoneer comes in three trims and offers a choice of either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive.

The Grand Wagoneer is available in four trims and is exclusively four-wheel drive. Whether or not you want the capability to go off-road, you’ll have it in the Grand Wagoneer. Another key difference is price. The Wagoneer is the base model in the lineup and starts at $57,995. The Grand Wagoneer is a more premium offering and starts at $86,995.

The base Wagoneer Series I is rear-wheel drive with late availability priced at $57,995. Series II adds optional four-wheel drive and has tri-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated 12-way power front seats, Nappa leather, and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen for $67,995. Series III adds rear load-leveling, heated second row, and auto high beams at $72,995.

The Grand Wagoneer Series I is $86,995 with four-wheel drive, tri-pane sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control, 24-way power front seats, premium 19-speaker audio, and 12.0-inch infotainment screen. Series II adds 22-inch wheels, digital rearview mirror, and Palermo leather seats for $93,995 while the Obsidian adds black accents and 23-speaker audio for $98,995. The Series III is $103,995 with added safety and a front passenger display screen.

The Jeep Wagoneer is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine with etorque hybrid assist. It delivers 392 horsepower with 404 lb-ft of torque paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Jeep recommends using mid-grade gas of at least 89 octane to power the Wagoneer but notes that 87 octane is acceptable. This is your only engine option with the Wagoneer.

The Grand Wagoneer also has a single engine option, but it offers a significant step up in power. It has a 6.4-liter V8 engine with 471 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque that is also paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This larger engine has more power, but requires premium gas of at least 91 octane, so budget accordingly.

Off-road capability for the Wagoneer family comes from one of three available four-wheel-drive systems. Quadra-Trac I is a full-time, single-speed, four-wheel-drive system that’s standard for Wagoneer Series II. Quadra-Trac II is standard for the Wagoneer Series III with active four-wheel drive, two-speed transfer case, and hill-descent control.

Optional for the Wagoneer and standard on the Grand Wagoneer is Quadra-Drive II. This four-wheel drive system includes an electronic limited-slip differential for the rear axle and hill-descent control. These trims also come equipped with Quadra-Lift air suspension with five modes that provides up to 10 inches of ground clearance for managing more challenging off-road drives.

The original Grand Wagoneer is easily recognizable for the wood trims that adorned its exterior. It was a singular part of this Jeep’s style, but the folks at Jeep decided it’s not the right look for a thoroughly modern luxury vehicle in 2022. There are no available exterior wood trims for the current Grand Wagoneer, but you can get genuine wood trims on the inside.

Open the doors and in addition to leather seating surfaces, there are genuine handcrafted Satin American Walnut wood trims. This wood was chosen both for its premium look and its durability, so it will stand up to more rigorous off-roading adventures and the dirt that often finds its way inside.

Up until now, anyone who needed an SUV with a third row and seating for up to eight passengers had no options from Jeep. That all changes with the Wagoneer and opens Jeep ownership to larger families and those who simply want the flexibility to carry extra passengers when the need arises. All Wagoneer variants have a standard 60/40 split-folding third row.

There’s also a standard 60/40 split-folding second-row bench seat for the Wagoneer while the Grand Wagoneer gets standard second-row captain’s chairs that take total seating down to seven people. If you’d rather things the other way around, that’s fine. You have the option to switch out those second-row seats for whatever configuration you prefer.

Jeep sees the Wagoneer family as a premium offering regardless of which trim you choose, so it’s offering enhanced service levels to Wagoneer owners with its new “10 Customer Promises” program. This includes VIP treatment at the dealership with specially trained Certified Wagoneer Ambassadors and upgraded lounge areas with free Wi-Fi, charging stations, snacks, and beverages. Owners will also be able to schedule everything from test drives to service appointments to delivery and pickup online or in-vehicle.

The program includes a full tank of gas on delivery and a fully washed interior and exterior when your vehicle first arrives and anytime it’s serviced. Jeep will also provide a comparable loaner and updates you when service is needed.

Sometimes it’s cargo and not people that are your priority. When you don’t need to carry passengers, the Wagoneer has a cavernous interior to handle all your cargo needs. Even with a full load of passengers, there’s 27.4 cubic feet behind the third row to stow all their belongings. Fold that row down and there’s up to 70.9 cubic feet behind the second row of seats.

If you don’t need seating for passengers, then there’s 94.2 cubic feet behind the first row in the Grand Wagoneer, and 116.7 cubic feet behind the first row for the Wagoneer. Regardless of which configuration you choose, there’s ample room for people, cargo, or a combination of the two.

The Wagoneer has a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen with the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system, while the Grand Wagoneer features a 12.0-inch touchscreen. Optional across the lineup is a rear-seat entertainment system that features dual 10.1-inch touchsreens mounted on the backs of the front headrests. That’s usually where the infotainment screens stop, but there’s one more available screen in the Wagoneer, and it’s reserved for the front passenger.

This 10.3-inch touchscreen is standard on the Grand Wagoneer Series III and optional for the rest of the lineup. It provides access to navigation, device management, entertainment including rear seat entertainment control, Fire TV for auto, and the ability to view exterior cameras. Wherever you sit, there’s a screen that makes infotainment control easy.

Along with an abundance of screens, the Jeep Wagoneer features premium audio systems and Uconnect 5 infotainment. This is the latest version of Uconnect with faster processing speeds, eight standard USB ports, AM/FM/SiriusXM, TomTom Traffic, TomTom Travel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a standard 9-speaker Alpine audio system with subwoofer and amplifier.

The audio experience is elevated with an available 19-speaker McIntosh MX950 sound system that includes a 10-inch subwoofer. Top trims of the Grand Wagoneer have the most premium system available as a standard feature. This 1375-watt McIntosh MX1375 audio system has 23 speakers located throughout the vehicle and a 12-inch subwoofer that easily fills the expansive interior with rich sound.
