Pros: Very comfortable ride
Cons: Rear end noise
Advice: Take a long test drive to get engine and rear end gears to temp and listen for noiseDrove in 2003 but waited for 3.6 engine in 2004. Great looking car and rides well on trips. Three minor recalls in first 18 months and then did not have parts in stock when I took it in. Loud noise in rear end at low torque between 20 and 40mph. One dealer did not even acknowledge the noise after driving. Another said he heard it but there was no fix from GM. GM extended warranty to 100K. Hey, it's a Cadillac, it shouldn't be noisy! Finally took back to the dealer from whom I purchased and he replaced the entire rear axle and differential assembly. Problem resolved and then got rear ended and car was totaled. Will not buy another GM. I gave them a another chance but the quality is just not there. I'm glad I kept the '97 BMW convertable. It still runs great!
Pros: performance and appearance
Cons: trunk and hood lights; leg room rear
Advice: Go for it ,you will not have any reason for regretI bought the CTS for my wife at christmas, and can barely get to drive it. It has great appearance (everyone wants to talk about it), handling and performance is great as well as turn radius. It is surprisingly quiet on the hwy. Also quiet at stand still.A little louder in the city with windows down. Only things I didn't like is the rear trunk light should have dual (one on both sides of the large trunk). Also a light under the hood would be nice. And a little more leg room in the rear,I'm 6'2 and it's a little cramped. Overall we love it,she has already put 2800mi on it in 2weeks,and she works from home.
Pros: the style
Cons: interior and build quality
Advice: do a lot of comparaitve shopping before you buy this carI just purchased an 04 with all that you can get except the NAV. Moon roof, sports package, heated everything.. The dealer even put 18 inch STS wheels and new Michelins on this car and installed the rear spoiler which is one of the nicest I have ever seen to compliment the styling of a car. This was a certifed used car so it came with the 100k warranty. It had 45k on it so I have 55k miles to go. I like that - especially for an American made car. The color is the custom red that you pay 1500 extra for and the dealer popped V emblems on it. hmmm. My car is a 3.6 and at first drive is peppy but in no league with a BMW -- more like Toyota. I am disappointed by all the cheesy plastic interior and high pitch transmission whine (hydromatic auto) at idle and slow speeds. Lack of Caddy class in this car just looks like a way for GM to save money. Something inherent in all US made cars. I traded an 01 Jag XKR. I am a certified idiot.
Cons: Cruise Control Switch
Advice: Buy it!A great car with some downsides... I am very tall (6’-7”), and finding a car that I want to drive and fit in can be two mutually excusive things. I shopped a ridiculous number of cars before selecting the Cadillac CTS. I am very happy with my purchase with a few minor exceptions. Twice, during rain showers the check engine light has come on and the engine loses all power. It runs fine, but can’t get out of its own way on the roadway. The driver’s seat has a strange clunk, which is pretty irritating. The Goodyear RSA’s that came on the car are terrible. I have only 17,000 miles on the car and the front tires have maybe 50% wear left, they are also cupped (irregular wear), causing them to be very noisy. Can’t wait to buy a decent set of Michelins. The engine and transmission are to die for! I have the 3.6L w/ the 6spd manual (a difficult combination to find). The transmission and clutch are generally very smooth and easy to use and make good use of the available power. I am surprised that the magazines have such slow 0-60 times, because my car seems like a rocket ship to me. The engine has almost bottomless torque available at all RPM. I do have a little trouble from time to time distinguishing 1st gear from reverse. I do wish reverse was over be 5th gear instead. The engine also occasionally feels a little rough at idle. I have received numerous comments from those inside and outside the car that appreciate is looks and comfort. I know it sound crazy, but some day I hope to take it to an SCCA autocross.
Cons: Car dies out with no warning
Advice: Do not buy this carThe car rides well and looks great. However, the car has died out with no warning on three separate occasions. After one year I have had to replace two batteries. The dealership can't seem to figure out the problem of the battery being drained. The dealership couldn't care less and they have no answer for the car dying out. The corporate folks at Cadillac are not much help either. We are currently in negotiations for a new car if mine isn't finally repaired. Very frustrating having a car towed out of your garage on three separate occasions. Purchase this car at your own risk.
Pros: Beautiful trouble-free performance
Advice: Do not hesitate to buy this excellent value, beautiful automobileAfter researching and driving other cars, I knew this was the one. I have not been disappointed; I love it even more after almost two years-- bought new, Aug '04 luxury sport. It is a distinctively beautiful American car. The performance, comfort, features, reliability, safety are excellent.
Cons: a tough question; hard to think of anything other than no grab handle for passenger.
Advice: take it for a drive on a winding country road and hit the performance button. great! It is too bad Mazda owns 'zoom-zoom-zoom' since it really applies to this Cadillac. As tame and docile as it is in regular driving, push it through some some curves and it feels like the best of the import sport sedans. Floor it and you know it is not your Grandfather's Caddy; hit the performance button on the transmission and you will surprise some of the 'hot' cars. Seats are firm but comfortable. Loaded with all the creature comfort items(and I don't even have the luxury option) Bonus item; Cadillac service great without the snobishness found at BMW,Mercedes and some others.
