Changes for the 2014 Cadillac CTS Sedan:

Completely redesigned for 2014, the Cadillac CTS Sedan moves up a class in terms of size and price. A new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is standard, a refined 3.6-liter V-6 engine is carried over, and a new CTS Vsport variant is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V-6. Additionally, the 2014 CTS Sedan gains CUE technology as well as a long list of new safety-related features.

Please note that only the Cadillac CTS Sedan is redesigned for 2014. The CTS Coupe, the CTS Sport Wagon, and all high-performance CTS-V models continue in previous-generation format.

Model Lineup:

Cadillac sells the redesigned 2014 CTS Sedan in a standard level of trim with Luxury, Performance, and Premium “collections” of upgrades. The CTS-V Sedan is a separate model that is fully equipped with a handful of options.

Luxury models add leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Driver Awareness package of safety features. Performance models include navigation, a Magnetic Ride Control suspension, a power sunroof, Automatic Parking Assist technology, and more. Premium models get full leather seats and a Driver Assist Package. The CTS Vsport includes numerous performance-oriented enhancements.

Engines and Transmissions:

A turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard, generating 272 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,500 rpm. A 321-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine is optional, as is a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V-6 good for 420 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque from 3,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. A new 8-speed automatic transmission is included with rear-drive models. Choose the optional all-wheel-drive system, and the CTS gets a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2014 CTS-V Sedan is carried over with a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine generating 556 horsepower and 551 lb.-ft. of torque. It is offered only with rear-wheel drive, and with a choice between a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy Ratings:

The standard turbocharged 4-cylinder is rated to get 23 mpg in combined driving, while the V-6 returns 22 mpg. Those figures drop by 1 mpg when AWD is added to the car. The EPA had not established fuel economy ratings for the CTS Vsport’s twin-turbo V-6 as this summary was written.

As might be expected, the CTS-V is not as fuel-efficient. It gets 16 mpg with the manual gearbox, and 14 mpg with the optional automatic.

Safety Ratings:

As this summary is written, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) had performed crash tests on the redesigned CTS Sedan. The CTS-V, which continues in previous-generation CTS guise, received a 5-star overall NHTSA rating and a “Top Safety Pick” rating in 2013.

Technology Highlights:

In addition to including Cadillac’s CUE infotainment technology, which is designed to look and function like a smartphone or tablet computer, the redesigned 2014 CTS Sedan is offered with numerous new safety features. Highlights include Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Collision Preparation, Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone Alert, and Front and Rear Automatic Braking.
