Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The car has great brakes.
Cons: Whenever I unlock the liftgate from inside the car, then get out of the car and shut the driver's door it forces the liftgate to lock.
Advice: Be prepared to spend alot of time in the service department.I purchased a 2003 Certified Pre-Owned BMW X5 in October 2006. The car had 50,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. This car has been in the shop since the first day.The moment I drove the car home from the dealership and pulled into my driveway warning lights and bells were going off. In a two-month period my X5 has been in the shop over 6 times. I now know the whole service department on a first name basis. Nothing has been too major, no engine problems yet (knock on wood), but all the problems combined have been a major annoyance. For instance, my car is in the shop right now because today when I was driving down the highway in the pouring rain my windshield wipers stopped working. If you want to purchase a Certified Pre-Owned BMW beware, when I spoke to BMW regarding all the problems the car has had in the past 2 months, BMW responded with 'What do you expect the car is a 2003 with 50,000 miles on it.' Every car I have had in the past I have driven over 100,000 miles without EVER having a problem. BMW claims that a BMW is the “Ultimate Driving Machine”, I would not know, I barely drive my car because it is ALWAYS in the shop.
Pros: great handling
Cons: not enough cargo space
Advice: make sure you can live with the limited cargo spaceI have had this car for 1.5 years and love the performance. Very tight with reasonable acceleration. Have taken this up to Tahoe several times and it performs flawlessly in the snow and on steep grades. Feels just as good on the town as it does in the mountains (as long as it doesn't have to go off road).
Pros: Y Spoke Wheels / Overall clean look
Cons: Firm ride
Advice: You want to play...You have to pay! it anit cheapFrom a 1996 Ford Tauras, to a 2003 X.5 3.0 (added on the 4.4 y spoke wheels seperately, $2,400). Quick and Classiy! Blends nicely into the North Scottsdale, all that, crowd...
Pros: auto-standard transmission
Cons: ugly standard wheels
Advice: get the sport package (much nicer wheels) for 3.0 or 4.4 modelsWent from a 540i with 4.4 litre 6-speed manual to an X5 with a 3.0 6 cylinder automatic and missed the extra giddy-up at first, but now find 3.0 sufficient and am saving untold $$ on speeding tickets. Rides and accelerates beautifully for a 'truck.'
Pros: seat memory
Cons: not enough add on accessories
Advice: more accessories for all the modelsis a wonderful vehicle to drive
Pros: 4 wheel drive
Cons: water leaks in when in rains .....
Advice: this is not your typical SUV .... it is really sportyVery solid and safe feeling in the car . Great visibility , superb road handling through the 4 WD and great road grip in all conditions . Accelerates well ....takes some effort in starting from a stop but picks up fast . Phenomenal German engineering inside in the little engineering feats .....great telephone and music capabilities .
