2015 BMW X4 xDrive35i Test Drive and Video Review

BMW’s luxury crossover and SUV family is getting crowded, and one of the latest models to join the lineup is the X4. The 2015 BMW X4 is based on the chassis of the X3, but its design is similar to the larger X6. The fastback styling of the 2015 X4 does give it something to stand out from the crowd, and BMW refers to it not as crossover, but as a “sports activity coupe.” Autobytel’s Road Test Editor, Dan Gray, test drives the 2015 BMW X4 to see how, exactly, this vehicle compares to its siblings. The X4 comes in two trim levels, the xDrive28i and the xDrive35i. Both are all-wheel-drive, which is what the xDrive name signifies. The xDrive35i model, as tested, is powered by a 3-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, capable of 300 horsepower and a 0-60 acceleration time of 5.2 seconds. It’s paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, that helps the X4 achieve EPA ratings of 19 MPG city, 27 MPG highway. A 2015 X4 xDrive35i starts at $48,000, but Autobytel’s test car was optioned up to just over $61,000. Handling suffers a bit compared to an all-wheel-drive station wagon from BMW or another manufacturer, but for some buyers, the additional ride height might be worth the sacrifice.
