Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The drivetrain - the combination of the 292 bhp V-8 and BMW's slick shifting 6-speed is phenominal!
Cons: Cupholders are a joke!
Advice: These are complex cars that are expensive to fix - make sure you car is in the CPO program. Also - 540i 6-speeds have a firm suspension and ride harder than a 540i A - make sure that's what you want before you buy one. When the time came to replace my venerable 1990 525 5-speed I considered both the 528i 5-speed and the 540i 6-speed. Good luck and an dealer willing to negotiate put me in the driver's seat of a low-mileage V-8. While I love BMW's 6-cylinder, driving the 540 6-speed is an experience that never fails to delight. SOme recent reviews have called the lokk of the 5-Series dated but it looks great to me inside and out. I have experienced few cars that capture the road feel and mix of luxury and performance as this one does. Also, BMW stands behind their Certified Pre-Owned cars - eveything I have asked to be corrected has been done at their cost and without question.
Pros: Xenon lights very cool!!
Cons: Nothing sofar!
Advice: Drive any vehicle I drove and come back to buy a BMW...In 2001 I bought a brand new Ford Focus, for 1.5 years nothing but trouble! So through a lemon law procedure returned the car and went shopping for a new car... Drove various cars, but we had a 328i sedan already which we loved and traded for a 330ci coupe, wonderful car! I drove Mercedes, Audi, Volvo and various other cars, but we both loved the 325i Sport Wagon or touring, pretty fast, very nice handling, full scheduled maintenance for 4 years or 50,000 miles which really made us decide for the 2003 BMW 325i Touring. When I trade this car, I will get a M3 or a 330ci Cabrio... 'Nur Fliegen ist schoener!!!' Only flying is nicer! Please correct the years because they are both 2003 models!
Pros: Adjustments for driver position, seat heaters
Cons: Extra force required to drive the car.
Advice: You probably won't get much of a price break.Very nice car, handles extremely well. Road noise is just about non-existent inside. I felt the controls were a bit stiff, steering, brakes, gas, all took more effort than the car I ended up with. Seats were stiff, and felt a little short under the thighs, although the many adjustments (seat and steering) allowed for a good driving position. The design that goes into these cars is incredible! One turn off I had in this car was the heating system and CD player did not work. Brand new car on the lot, not a good sign.
Pros: septronic auto transmission,
Cons: useless cupholders
Advice: The premium and cold weather pakages add alot to the vehicleMy wife and I were looking for a vehicle for her. We considered the Lincoln LS -V-8,Cadillac CTS, Jaguar X Type 3.0 ltr,Benz c-320 and the BMW 525i. My first concern about the 525 was that the engine was going to be undersized and that the car would underperform. Well after driving it I couldn't have been more wrong. When using the steptronic auto 5 transmission, this car really performs well. the handling is firm and the transmission is very smooth. I purchased the car with the cold weather package and the premium package, and I love it. My biggest complaint is that its difficult to get it away from my wife, so that I can drive it. The sound system is fantastic and the seating is comfortable and the seat memory feature is very handy. I really recommend that you drive this vehicle. The cup holders are stupid they shouldnt have even bothered. Since that is my biggest complaint, I'll learn to live with it. For some reason the review will not allow me to enter 2003 model, which I bought, it says not in data base, so I will enter a 2002. But the vehicle I am reviewinf and have purchased is a 2003
Cons: Center Console
Advice: The AWD is great if you need it. Nothing else even comes close to this car.The first time i drove my car was on Christmas Eve. The snow was gently falling and conditions were quickly icing up, however, the all-wheel drive handled superbly adding a sense of confidence. Heading out of my neighborhood, i watched as three cars spun out right in front of me. The DSC-X and AWD balanced perfectly and i held my perfect line. The HDC was also amazing through the steep icy hills. To test the handling of the car, I approached a turn I normally take at 40mph at 85mph. The car turned and slid through the turn beautifully, allowing me to maintain control throughout. This car is absolutely amazing. The AWD is also an added bonus on my long snowy drives to college.
Cons: sun visors don swing to the side all the way.
Advice: Get oneThe V8 is powerfull and exceptionaly smooth. American V8s don't come close on the smoothness of delivery and the breadth of the power band. It will accelerate hard in any gear above 1500 rpm. In corners, it's powerfull enough to light up the DSC even on smooth, clean pavement. That's with 255 series high performance tires. Makes you want to upgrade to the M5 limited slip differential. Sport seats rock, but not if you have a big but. Stearing is telegraphic. Ride is smooth despite the stiffer sport package.
Advice: Do anything to buy itThis car is great! It is very fast and is very comfortable. When I went to Mamoth with my family to go snowboarding and skiing, the racks on the top of the car held two pairs of skies of two pairs of snowboards. This car is good for almost any type of road BUY IT NOW!!!
