Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The throaty exhaust note, silky smooth engine
Cons: Nothing yet.
Advice: The high price is worth it. Go drive one hard and see for yourself. The 330 is more seat-of-your-pants fun than the 325 and 328. Tight gear ratios make stop-light racing a thrill. It corners like its on rails. Amazingly, the ride is quiet and comfortable and the nimble suspension surpresses bumps. The interior is well designed and appointed - very driver-focused. Build quality, fit and finish are impecable. Nothing wrong with the Japanese cars I considered...the BMW was just that much better. The dealer experience was good, too. More like a country club than a car dealer, though.
Pros: the engine and the performance
Cons: little space in the back for adults, but kids can be there OK
Advice: It is a good alternative to cars that are more expensiveThis is a great car. Fast, reliable and comfortable and I think the price is reasonable.
Pros: Power and handling
Advice: If power and handling are all that is important to you, then this is the car.I test drove a 2002 330i with a manual 5-speed. The power and handling were excellent and the quality of engineering and workmanship are second to none. The only complaints are the comfort of the ride and the display for the climate control and radio. I realize this car is designed for performance and handling, but for $40K I expect a comfortable ride too. The seats were narrow and hard, and the ride was not very smooth. The LED display is hard to read.
Pros: Can't decide
Advice: Buy it!I have had this car for about 8 months now and I still get excited every time I get behind the wheel.
Pros: The noise (s ) coming from the muffler.
Cons: The monthly payment
Advice: Shop at least two dealers and go with the people who treat you right. The 3.0 Engine is a jewel! It is smooth as silk and has so much torque from almost zero RPMs..I am delighted with the 330Ci, I got the manual transmission and mated to the sweet sounding engine I feel like Schumacher almost every moring when I drive to work. I tried the steptronic auto and tried to convince myself of it's merits, but...I just think if your 'in' for a car like this get the 'Real' version with a stick..To heck with the traffic jam excuse. The sports package is a must also..Even if only for the seats and white lights. My only regret is not getting the 18 inch wheels - But it is hard to imagine how this car could handle a bend any better than it does. There's a 360 degree Interstate ramp near where I live that I go 2 miles out of my way just so I can exit the appex at 70 mph in third with not even a hint of tire screeching or drama of any kind..it's such a blast to pass geeks in (Toyota) IS 300'S & assorted other fake sports cars in this fashion!.My last car was a 99' M3 which I missed for about a week until I really got to know this super fast grand tourer.Such luxury & quality but can dust 90% of the other sport/luxury type cars out there in the traffic light grand prix. In summary: The looks of the car are a design masterpiece..Very easy on the eye..Performance is great and really makes a regular driver like myself feel exhilerated just by driving to work. I also recomend that you get the Bi-Xenon lights, a great driver saftey feature & nothing to do with the fact that they look cool. Mine has the new Natural brown two-tone Interior with is so rich & Alpine white paint...such a refreshing change from Silver! Enjoy..But don't let this car turn you into a certified car geek as sadly it has done to me.
Pros: Steptronic tranny and the sound system
Cons: 17' wheels too small
Advice: buy it ASAPBought my 2001 coupe in September and have been more excited each time I get behind the wheel. Supple smooth engine and an auto steptronic that really works. I only wish it came with the 18' wheels when I bought it.
Pros: Performance and handling. It's just a great driving experience.
Cons: No cup holders in the rear seat area
Advice: Get the sports Pkg.I bought my 330Ci in late 2000 and now almost 18 months later I don't regret it one bit. I have added Dinan performance products which has elevated a great car to another level at a minimal cost and is still covered under warranty. It just blows the competition away. It is now a wolf in sheeps clothing except for the Dinan 3 deck lid badge it proudly displays.Jimmy J., Houston ,Tx.
