Just when you thought it was safe to buy that 2004 3 Series, here comes another – a significant 2006 refresh to the German automaker’s bread and butter car that reportedly includes evolutionary styling changes, more interior space and a power boost. The secret’s out, thanks to a wayward brochure of the next 3 Series – and we now know what BMW has planned for one of America’s favorite entry luxury sedans. Two of the photos, shown here, illustrate how BMW plans to evolve their current vehicle design – especially the controversial rear tail. Note the more subtle touch to the rear tail of the vehicle. The ’06 3 Series also carries with it changes to the headlights and what looks like a larger kidney grille.

Page 2: Mechanics

Mechanically, there may be some significant changes, including a longer and wider body – resulting in more interior space, and, along with a new chassis, improved handling -- as well as more power. The 300i will reportedly get a boost from 225 horsepower to more than 250 horsepower, and the 325i may get more than 215 horses. A simplified version of the I-Drive may also make its way to the 3, but as an option. Overall, it looks like BMW is intent on keeping the 3 relevant to shoppers who are continually upping the ante when it comes to space, convenience and power. If the brochure contains accurate information – look for the 3 to be a hit. We'll provide more information about the '06 BMW 3 Series as it gets closer to launch, so stay tuned...
