Deals With A Faulty Brake Pump
BMW of North America has announced a recall that affects certain 3-Series, 5-Series, X1, X3, and Z4 models that deals with a faulty brake pump.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vacuum pump which supplies the braking power may have gotten an inadequate amount of lubricant and could fail.
“A failure of the brake vacuum pump results in a reduction in braking power that could increase the risk of a crash,” said NHTSA in a recall notice.
BMW says a driver will be able to stop a vehicle in the event of a brake pump failing, but it will take a lot more to force a stop.
Around 76,000 vehicles are involved in this recall, all being equipped with the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The models affected include:
2012-2014 320i, 328i, 320i xDrive, and 328i xDrive sedan 2014 328i xDrive Sports Wagon 2012-2013 528i and 528i xDrive sedan 2013-2014 X1 sDrive28i and X1 xDrive28i 2013-2014 X3 xDrive28i 2012-2014 Z4 sDrive28i
