If We Could Steal One Car from the 2008 SEMA Show

Awash in the finest cars money can buy, there are certain vehicles that call out to you as you pace the carpet at the SEMA show. This particular vehicle, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, was our Siren. She beckoned us with a subtle song every time we walked by, until finally we stopped and said, "If the keys were in that ride we'd be gone so fast you'd have to call the Mexican border police to catch us." Turns out we weren't alone in our sentiment. We have since learned this car took home the 2008 Mothers Shine Award, one of the most prestigious awards given out at SEMA each year.

Built by Ringbrothers of Wisconsin, RAZOR, as the car is known, started out as a California-raised 1969 Chevy Camaro. Dropped off at their shop with a Ram Jet ZL1 crate engine (#193 of 200 produced). The project was only supposed to be quick restoration job. Three-thousand work hours and $400,000 later, the project bloomed into the gem you see before you (with the owner's blessing of course!). The shop only builds typically one vehicle a year, and when they do it is always a jaw-dropper. At the 2006 SEMA show they won the Mothers Award with their 1967 Ford Mustang "Reactor".

It's not that the design of the vehicle is so breathtaking to us. No doubt about it, the car is beautiful, but there is nothing outrageous about it. Stunningly subtle would be a better way to describe it. What impresses us so much about this vehicle is the attention to detail that makes it look like it rolled out of General Motors' own studio. In fact, one of the Ringbrothers owners mentioned to us that multiple people have asked him if this was one of the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaros at SEMA they'd heard so much about.

While the RAZOR has a "stock" look to it, much of this vehicle was custom fabricated by Ringbrothers. Take, for instance, the vehicle's hood: It was designed in CAD, milled from steel, and then taken to a specialty shop where a carbon-fiber replica was made from a mold of the steel. The cost of doing this? Around $15,000. The Budnik wheels are one-off creations as well, and the contrast of the Baer brakes and cross-drilled rotors look amazing. The RAZOR is so clean you could eat dinner off of it.

In case you were wondering, it has the drive to back up the looks too. Out of the box, the ZL1 produces 510-horsepower, and the vehicle suspension has been completely customized by Ringbrothers as well. The owner of the vehicle, Erv Woller, doesn't just display the vehicle, he drives it too. This year, the RAZOR took home the coveted Street Machine of the Year Award where the award criteria require all vehicles take part in a three-lap autocross.
