The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe represents the first small two-door automobile offered by the Detroit automaker since time immemorial.  Based on the successful and widely praised ATS sedan, the Cadillac ATS Coupe is poised to do battle with the BMW 4 Series, the Audi A5, and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe in the entry-level luxury market.  Spiritually, the ATS Coupe also replaces the CTS Coupe, which is unlikely to receive the same redesign as its sedan sibling.

What’s New for the 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe:

  • The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe is a an all-new design
  • Based on the same platform as the ATS sedan
  • More powerful turbocharged engine compared to the four-door ATS
  • Wider track versus the sedan

New 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe: Styling and Design

The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe avoids the drama of the CTS coupe and instead stretches the elegant lines of the four-door compact sedan across a two-door canvas.  The overall effect creates a good-looking, but somewhat conservative coupe that isn’t quite as sporty as one would imagine it to be (although it does boast a wider track).

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as BMW has been raking in the dough with an equally tasteful two-door 3 (now 4) series entry-level coupe, but it’s a little outside the ballpark for Cadillac stylists given the history of the Art and Science design language.  The ATS Coupe’s passenger compartment is a direct lift from the sedan.

New 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe: What’s Under the Hood

The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe makes use of the same two engine options available with the four-door edition of the car, but with a twist.  While its top-tier 3.6-liter V-6 is good for 321 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, the ATS Coupe’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder features 272 horses and 295 lb-ft of twist – a 14 percent bump for the latter figure compared to the ATS sedan.  A six-speed manual transmission is available with the entry-level mill, and a six-speed automatic can be had with either engine (standard with the V-6).  All-wheel drive will of course be available across the ATS Coupe lineup, and the turbo model has been clocked to 60-mph from a standing start in a respectable 5.6 seconds.

New 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe: Features and Technology

The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe largely mirrors the ATS sedan in terms of its equipment, but it will be one of the first GM models to come with 4G wireless Internet connectivity.  This particular innovation will combine with the Cadillac CUE interface in order to extend the usability of the apps that come with the car, such as streaming Internet radio.

New 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe: What Autobytel Thinks

The 2015 Cadillac  ATS Coupe looks to be what Cadillac needed to help expand its colonization of the entry-level luxury landscape.  The company has bragged that 70 percent of ATS sedan customers are new to the brand, and that it has managed to double the number of under-35 buyers thanks to the nameplate.  The ATS Coupe should have no trouble expanding the circle, and with the prospect of an ATS-V Coupe to go up against the BMW M4 looming on the horizon, the future seems bright for the ATS family.
