As fun as the coupe and convertible are, it’s the E-Class sedan that makes up most of the dollars from the showroom floor. Additionally, the wagon is a hot seller in most markets around the world, with a few sightings here in the States. This is an important vehicle for Mercedes-Benz and it’s been given an update to its style and safety technology; two areas that are important to customers.

What’s New for the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan & Wagon:

  • The exterior design has been reworked.
  • New safety systems have been added to the Mercedes-Benz intelligent drive technology.
  • The interior has received a refresh alongside the exterior.
  • A new diesel engine arrives into the lineup, as does a hybrid powertrain.

The first impression of the redesigned E-Class is that the face bas been tightened up and drawn backwards. It’s as if the car hit the plastic surgeon to adjust the face, and the result works here. It manages to come off as both more elegant and more aggressive, and that’s no easy feat to pull off.

Along the side of the E-Class, the shoulder line is pronounced and dynamic, and it runs out to the back of the car. As the eye follows, it begins to take in the added muscularity of the rear section of the car. It’s akin to a runner in a crouch, with a range of power waiting to be unleashed.

New 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan & Wagon: What’s Under the Hood

Starting at the bottom of the order is the all-new E250, which is powered by a 2.1-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. Power output is rated at 190 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and it should prove to be a miser when it comes to sipping fuel.

Rising up the chain brings us to the E350 sedan and wagon, which feature a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. New for 2014 is the E400 Hybrid sedan, which utilizes that same 3.5-liter V6, but also gets a bonus thanks to an electric motor.

Finally, the E550 4MATIC Sport Sedan is the king of the hill because it houses a turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine, which is good for 402 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.

All engines are paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
