The 2015 Volvo S60 Polestar sedan and V60 Polestar wagon are the high performance cars that the Swedish brand has always wanted, but never had – until now. In partnership with motorsports mavens Polestar, Volvo has had its mid-size four-door and five-door offerings tuned to within an inch of their life in order to present a legitimate challenge to European luxury rivals. Previously seen in concept form, the S60 Polestar and V60 Polestar production models are making a splash in Chicago.
The heart of the 2015 Volvo V60 Polestar and S60 Polestar models is a 345 horsepower, 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine. Also capable of producing 369 lb-ft of torque, this unit sends its output to all four wheels via a special all-wheel drive system developed by Haldex in conjunction with Polestar. A six-speed automatic transmission handles the shifting duties, and 60-mph arrives from a standing start in under five seconds.
Power is nothing without control, and in recognition of this the Polestar Volvos feature 20-inch rims, up-sized Brembo brakes front and rear, Ohlins shock absorbers, and stiff springs to keep them glued to the ground. Styling is also enhanced via unique Polestar colors, as well as sporty interior trim that sets the cars apart from the standard sedans and wagons available from Volvo.
The 2015 Volvo V60 Polestar and Volvo S60 Polestar have been a long time coming, and we’re happy they are finally here. The specs indicate that either of these two models would be a blast to drive, in all weather conditions, and we’re ecstatic to see yet another automaker bringing a high performance wagon to the United States (one of the world’s most endangered automotive species). Polestar’s reputation is excellent amongst gearheads and race fans, and a strong partnership with Volvo could be the start of a series of exciting cars. When’s the last time you heard that word associated with a Swedish automobile?
