With the introduction of the first generation Civic Si, Honda launched a legacy that served as the catalyst for a growing aftermarket hot-rodding industry that today offers countless performance and styling upgrades at a reasonable cost. For speed junkies, the appeal of the Honda Civic Si has always been the cheap price of admission and the ability to style the car with aftermarket add-ons. In some regions of the country, it seems no two Civics look the same. Sadly, the appeal of the current Civic Si hatchback has waned and today’s youth have turned to such cars as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru WRX STi to satisfy their need for speed. Honda hopes to restore the Civic’s credentials with a sleek, totally redesigned, 200-horsepower Si Coupe for 2006. Honda needed an aggressive new design for the new 2006 Civic to rejuvenate sales and based on the debut of the Honda Civic Si Concept, the company pulled it off. The new design incorporates a sweeping roofline; an ultra-fast windshield rake; a long rear deck; and a wider, lower stance. All of these design features give the Civic Si that go-fast look even when it’s sitting still.

Engine Stats

The front view of the Honda Civic Si Concept shows off its wider and lower stance, gracefully shaped sheetmetal, trendy carbon fiber hood treatment, and unique air dam. These functional design elements improve the aerodynamics of the Civic Si and set it apart from other Civic models. Under the hood resides a 200-horsepower, 16-valve, i-VTEC engine with a reported 8,000-rpm redline.

Aerodynamics

The rear of the new Honda Civic Si Concept features a wing and lower rear bumper diffuser as part of the overall aero package. Each of these elements plays a role in allowing the air to flow over the car with as few restrictions as possible. The integrated center exhaust system, though cool, is unlikely to make production because such a design could limit the use of aftermarket exhaust systems typically desired by targeted buyers.

Wheels and Brakes

Stuffed into the Civic Si Concept’s wheelwells are 18-inch aluminum wheels fronting four-piston Brembo disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors. Great emphasis was placed on reducing the space between the tires and fender openings, giving the Honda Civic Si Concept a crouched stance.

Profile Shot

A sweeping roofline and sharply raked windshield are apparent in the side view of the Honda Civic Si Concept, as well as the lower aero kit applied to the rocker panels. Honda’s designers incorporated styling elements that they felt would give the Civic Si a “one motion profile,” and it works.

Rear Wing

The racy rear wing on the Honda Civic Si Concept sits upon center-mounted supports and incorporates the third brake light in its design.

Rear Styling

Center Exhaust Aerodynamics played an important role in the design of the Honda Civic Si Concept. The center-mounted exhaust, rear wing, and lower rear bumper diffuser aid in the flow of air over the Civic Si’s sleek new sheetmetal.

Handling

Honda is serious when it comes to the Civic Si’s handling. The Honda Civic Si Concept sports 18-inch aluminum wheels and P225/40R18 high performance rubber along with four-piston Brembo brakes and cross-drilled rotors.

Best Angle

We think the Honda Civic Si Concept looks good from any angle but the rear quarter view really accentuates the sharp lines the designers have given this sixth-generation Civic Si.
