2015 Audi Q7 Debuts with Two New Appearance Packages

Pricing Remains Unchanged for New Model Year

The four-rings brand is taking an unexpected approach to boosting volume in the luxury crossover segments, introducing the 2015 Audi Q7 at the same $47,700 MSRP as the 2014 model. Now, you don't get any new standard content beyond a "full-body paint finish" for that price, and that minor style upgrade, fine-tuning the look of the Q7's exterior trim, isn't likely to attract that many new customers. On the other hand, an increasing number of owners are just fine with the current setup, which enjoyed a 16.5 percent spike in demand in June and has grown sales by 282 percent through the first six months of the year.

No other Audi product has seen that kind of growth this year except for the re-invented A3, and remember, the compact Audi family was essentially off the market during 2013.

Yet while the 2015 Audi Q7 has plenty of momentum, it's still not drawing that much in the way of volume. Consider the sales leaderboard for medium-sized three-row lux crossovers after the first six months of 2014:

  • Acura MDX—30,664 units
  • Infiniti QX60—15,599 units
  • Lexus GX460—10,276 units
  • Audi Q7—8,435 units

As an FYI, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class is priced in line with the 2015 Audi Q7, but offers just two rows, while the three-row M-B SUV—the GL-Class—has an MSRP of $63,000; both also outsold the Q7 by thousands of units in terms of first-half volume. The BMW X5, the largest current crossover from the Bavarians, is noticeably smaller and more expensive that the Q7, too, while racking up about 2.5 times more sales during that period.

But the 2015 Audi Q7 will offer some nice upgrades higher up in the range. For example, the mid-level 2015 Audi Q7 "Premium plus" model will be available with an "Offroad Style" package that combines the brand's "Black-optic" exterior design accents, black roof rails, 20-inch S-line wheels (with titanium finish) and an off-road body kit with flared fenders, stainless-steel skid plates and restyled bumpers. The "Sport Style" package, for the 2015 Audi Q7 "Prestige" model, welcomes the same black accents and roof rails as the Offroad Style package, then enhances those features with its own exclusive bumper/fender revisions, oval exhaust outlets, and massive 21-inch wheels with a Gloss Black finish.

Diesel-oriented drivers also should be aware that the price of the 2015 Audi Q7 TDI, with a clean-diesel engine that can post an EPA line of 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway/22 mpg combined, also remains unchanged from the previous model year, at $52,900.

The 2015 Audi Q7 is at dealerships now.
