    2008 Audi A6

    Stepchild A6

    Pros: The interior

Cons: Audi's option package, I have no garage opener

I have had Audi's since 1982. I have had Coupes, 100, 200, A4, A4 and now an A6. This car is as comfortable as a Bentley yet hussles down the road in supreme comfort and over the Sierra's here in Northern California like a sports car. The car is set up beautifully. Each time I drive the others (BMW,Mercedes, Lexus and Infinity) and come back to the build and quality of Audi. I wanted the 4.2 V8 but with 3.2 and 29 miles per gallon at 80mph and the feel of a V8 I don't need it. I'm not drag racing so I don't need an S or RS. The car is really supreme at what it does and gives confidence. I know the limits of the car after going thru Audi's program at Infiron Raceway in Sonoma California. Great Car looking forwad to the next version and A-7. I have had A-4's but don't overlook the A6. I get compliments all the time.

    2006 Audi A6 - 3.2 quattro Sedan

    Pros: MMI

Cons: Too many wheel spokes to keep clean.

Advice: Don't pay up for the V8.

I purchased this car new in August of 2006 and now have 22,000 miles on it. After reading some of these reviews, I feel fortunate. My car has performed flawlessly, is extremely comfortable and looks great. It is a fairly low optioned car and perhaps that has something to do with the performance.

    2007 Audi A6 - 3.2 quattro Sedan

Pros: quattro, ride stability, fit and finish, quiet cabin

    Cons: Audi's European delivery program

Advice: If you want real traction, this is the car

(This is for the 2008 A6 - ther was no option for the 2008 A6) Having just returned from driving my A6 in Europe, during which I drove over 2,400 miles, I can report my complete satisfaction with the vehicle. (WARNING: While I highly recommend taking European delivery, Audi’s program is extremely behind schedule. I had to fight very hard to get my documentation in time for my trip.) The A6 is very comfortable. The seats hold you firmly in place yet produce no sore spots even after hours of riding. The low noise levels of the cabin aid greatly in limiting fatigue. The much maligned MMI does require some study but is convenient to operate. If you found this review online, you can easily learn to operate all of the MMI functions. The performance and handling of the A6 is impressive. The 3.2 (3,123 cc) does just fine in getting up to speed, whether merging, passing, or setting the pace for autobahn traffic. After break in, I reached the car’s electronic speed cap of 134 mph several times. Even then the car is rock solid with very tight steering and no drift, shake, wobble, or float. The brakes are controlled and predictable. The suspension of the A6 is a great combination of road surface sensing and isolation from harsh jolts. You always “know” what conditions the tires are encountering but rarely do you have to think about it. Having done a lot of research on quattro at torsen.com, I summarize it as follows: Other all wheel drive systems are like walking on a slippery sidewalk where you slip and then catch yourself before you fall. Audi’s quattro is like not slipping in the first place. Other systems have to slip first, then detect the slip with ABS sensors, then actuate a clutch which then sends more torque to other wheels. Audi uses the completely mechanical TORSEN center differential to instantly distribute torque between the front and rear wheel pairs. In most cases, this prevents slip before it happens, rather than trying to play catch up like those systems on BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Acura, etc. The enhanced exterior styling of the 2008 model provides a sportier yet still refined look. The interior design features the classic Audi attention to detail with attractive wood inserts and stitched leather seats. As for features, I most like the adaptive air suspension (special order only on the 2008 3.2), back up camera, headlight washers, capability to fold down half or the entire back seat, and adaptive headlights.

2006 Audi A6 - quattro Quattro Station Wagon

    Pros: Performance

Cons: The reminder beeper for your seat belt.

Advice: Buy quattro. And, consider diesel if you can get it.

I am a 61 year old driver who has had over 300 cars in my lifetime from fiats, mercedes, fords, etc., etc. This is my second Audi A6 quattro. It is one of the best performing cars I have ever driven. Since I am now in Europe, I have the advantage to purchase V6 3.0l diesel, 245 hp. Unbelievable performance and mileage. On my last trip, I averaged 7 1/2 liters per 100 kilometers in speeds averaging 100 miles plus per hour (no speed limit on certain autobahns).

    2005 Audi A6 - 4.2

Pros: Quality both in and out

Cons: Gas pedal should be wider

Advice: Unless you have a strong preference for the larger engine in the 4.2, go for the 3.2

This is my sixth Audi and each is better than the one before. Comfort, finish, visibility and thoughtful features are outstanding. The owner's manual could be better.

    2006 Audi A6 - 3.2 quattro Sedan

    Pros: navigation

    Cons: reliability

Advice: be prepared to drive loaner cars

I get compliments from people, on how beautiful the car looks, no less than 2 times a week. It is a beautifully designed vehicle. I didn't like the design of the earlier model, but they got it right with this one. With that being said, I have had nothing but problems with my car! From the gas gauge not working correctly and running out of gas in the middle of the desert (on the way to Vegas), to the Check Engine light coming on the day after I got my 20,000 mile tune-up. Audi is 'grasping at straws' to come up with a reason as to why it is misfiring. I would love to tell everyone that this is the best car that I have ever had, but I can't. I am spending a lot of money on an A6, only to be driving whatever the Enterprise Rental (located within the dealership--RED FLAG?) has to offer--a Jetta, a Cherokee, an H3, an Impala, a Cadilac, and so on... The fact that I can't remember all the cars that I have had in the year and 3 months that I have had the vehicle, speaks for itself. I am really disappointed!
