Cons: Transmission hunts on hills
Advice: Buy a low mileage demo if you canFast, quick, exceptional handling, well made, beautifully appointed.
Pros: All standard safety features.
Cons: Premium gas
Advice: Really need to shop aroundIt was the most spirited of wagons available with a sports aspirition available. Had a Ford Focus SE Street Edition station wagon which got less city/hwy milage. Get 20-22 city and 27-30 hwy. Has everything I needed for under $30k, including leather, sunroof and sports package; need to really shop around.
Pros: Cornering and road handling
Cons: Premium Gas Prices
Advice: Shop around for the best priceLiving in the Northeast we needed a car that was reliable and good with our local weather conditions. With this knowledge in hand, we set out and bought a Lexus ES300. That was back in 2000. 2002 brought us a white Christmas with enough snow and ice to make the roads treachorous. We thought the front wheel drive and traction control was enough, however I found the car was skidding out of parked spaces under 5mph. This put us on the hunt for a new car company, keeping in mind that I didn't want a truck. We got to Audi, and to say the least I was very impressed. We settled on the Audi 3.0 Quattro with Triptronic transmission. For approximately 3wks now this car has handled the snow and ice on the road making it seem like we were driving in Arizona. Trunk space is very large and front seats have ample leg room for my 6-foot height. Back seats are a little snug, however with the room in the front and the telescopic steering column its really not a factor. Heated seats are the best in the market and warm you in less than 5mins. There are many compartments for storage so if your car becomes a mobile office you'll still feel as if you never left your home. They even have an extra electronic output in the trunk for laptops or other accessories. Please note, that this car needs premium gas. Depending on what your used to this may or maynot be a concern. Gas mileage is approximately 18 city 23-25 highway. Audio systems are all BOSE, we opted for the std. model which has a 6 disc CD changer in the dash, not worth the premium sound system (i.e., more watts) as it is a midsize car. One more note in closing, this car does have the option of adding 17inch rims with high performance tires. Should you decide to do this, remember that it will take away from the Quattro design. The 16 inch rims and all season tires provide better road gripping abilities. Good Luck Shopping!!
Pros: Upgraded stereo rocks!
Cons: Windshield wipers
Advice: Get the 3.0 if power is an issue for you.Great car. Handles wondefully. A little under-powered though. I always need to keep it in the S (sports) gear otherwise you'll get beat by a Hyundai off the line. Once you're on the highway however the car has great acceleration. My only other complaint is the winshield wipers. Bring along a squee-gee as they stink!!
Cons: Slightly underpowered
Advice: Buy one !!!Excellant car. Incredible handling with very high quality interior materials.
Pros: Quattro 4 wheel drive
Cons: Rear seat leg room a bit cramped, but so is the BMW
Advice: It's cheaper the the BMW with more features, same performanceI drove an A4 3.0 liter automatic and loved it. I then tested a BMW 330xi, which I also liked, and went back and drove them both the same day. I still like the Audi. The BMW has a stiffer, harsher ride. The Audi was much smoother, and I don't feel it lacks anything in performance over the BMW in either cornering or acceleration. The Audi's 4 wheel drive system is also superior.
Pros: Performance and Quattro
Cons: Poor visabity through the rear window
Advice: Turbo is fun but the V6 is my choice. Shop aroundI took two separate, extended test drives. I was so impressed that in January, I plan to buy the 2003 Audi A4. The 3.0 V6 with the 6 speed makes it a genuine pocket rocket. I like the other cars I tested but I feel that the A4 or the A6 are the the best bargains in their class. I want the 17 in. wheels but I am not sure about the sports suspension. It seems perfect as is. I hope this car stays a secret to keep the sales folks humble and hungry.
