2012 Acura RL: Video Road Test and Review

The Acura RL is the premium automaker's flagship sedan, a full-size, four-door premium automobile that sits at the top of its product range.  The Acura RL is conservatively styled and relies on the availability of high tech features and an advanced drivetrain in order to court potential buyers.  As with most luxury sedans, the RL is also gifted with a full range of modern safety features including front, side, and side curtain airbags as well as electronic stability and traction control and a number of optional advanced protective systems.

The Acura RL is motivated exclusively by a 3.7-liter V-6 that generates 300 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque.  A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is the brand's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system which continuously monitors driving conditions in order to manage torque distribution on an active basis.  Fuel mileage for the Acura RL checks in at 17-mpg in city driving and 24-mpg on the highway.

The entry-level Acura RL (MSRP $48,200) features HID headlights, a sunroof, heated leather seats, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless entry and ignition, 18-inch wheels, a surround sound audio system, satellite radio, and dual automatic climate control with additional temperature controls for rear passengers.  Adding the Technology package provides parking assistance, a ventilation feature for the front seats, a wood steering wheel, adaptive HID headlights, and a backup camera, as well as an advanced climate control system that uses GPS to track the position of the sun relative to the vehicle and adjust temperature accordingly.  A navigation system is also provided with the Technology package.  The Acura RL's Advance package improves safety via an adaptive cruise control system that incorporates an automatic braking to help avoid potential collisions.
