Acura Certified Pre-Owned Program

The Acura Certified Pre-Owned program was put together in order to provide used car buyers the chance to get behind the wheel of an affordable used Acura model without having to worry about its condition or history. Acura’s Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) inspection and vehicle selection processes are so rigorous that the company is able to offer a solid warranty on each automobile sold through the program. This helps to separate a CPO Acura from a run of the mill used car.

Acura selects the vehicles which are eligible to participate in its CPO program from a very specific pool. Only those automobiles which are six years old or less, and which have traveled fewer than 80,000 miles are considered for inclusion in the Acura Certified Pre-Owned program.

In addition, Acura technicians pore over every CPO applicant in order to make sure that all Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plates are still affixed to the vehicle in their original locations, and that all VIN numbers match. This verification is bolstered by a vehicle history check performed by CARFAX, which examines DMV and insurance records in order to search out any instances of odometer fraud, heavy damage from fire, flooding or theft, frame damage, an accident history or indications that the vehicle was ever declared a total loss (salvage) by an insurance company. Should any such records be found, the automobile in question is listed as ineligible for CPO participation.

If a vehicle has made it through the initial CPO selection process, it must then pass a detailed 150-point inspection that sees trained Acura dealership personnel examine every single aspect of the automobile’s condition. Each important vehicle system must be in excellent working order, including the transmission, the suspension, the electrical system and the engine. All CPO Acuras have to be clean inside and out, and can’t display any major appearance flaws. If necessary, components are replaced with genuine Acura parts, and any other repairs are made as needed.

Acura also makes sure to include in the glove compartment of each CPO vehicle an owner’s manual, a copy of the vehicle’s CARFAX report, the radio security code and navigation code (if necessary) and the vehicle’s maintenance journal.

Acura offers a three-day exchange policy on some of its Certified Pre-Owned automobiles that allows owners to return their purchase and trade it in for a different vehicle if they are not happy with it.

A limited warranty is also offered on all Acura Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. This coverage lasts for 12-months or 12,000 miles, and it provides free diagnosis and repair of almost any issue with the automobile during that period, with no deductible. This limited warranty coverage is on top of a seven-year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty that applies to the vehicle’s engine, transmission and related components. The limited warranty begins once the vehicle’s initial new car warranty has expired, while the powertrain warranty applies from the date that the automobile originally went into service.

The limited warranty period also includes a roadside assistance component that is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Emergency towing, fuel delivery and lock-out service combines with the Acura Concierge feature that can help owners locate hotels, make reservations for a night on the town and plan trips (amongst other useful services). The roadside assistance provided with Acura CPO vehicles also includes trip interruption coverage, which will reimburse owners for out-of-pocket expenses associated with a vehicle breakdown.
