Just a few short months after a concept version debuted at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, a production-ready 2015 Acura TLX is expected to make its world premiere on April 16 in New York, at that city's annual automotive extravaganza. Show-goers—and future TLX owners—can expect to see quite a few similarities between the two, of course, as Acura's modus operandi in recent years has been to follow its concept templates very closely for retail vehicles.

That's good news for drivers who want bolder, more aggressive styling, since the 2015 Acura TLX wears a subtly curved new skin that makes for a major upgrade over the look of the vehicles it's replacing (the Acura TSX and Acura TL). There's also been some serious work put in by the powertrain department, which has deployed two different setups in the TLX. The standard choice is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that's mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the premium unit provides more displacement (3.5 liters), more cylinders (six) and even another cog for its nine-speed automatic transmission.

Other technological highlights of the 2015 Acura TLX will include:

  • Performance All-Wheel Steer
  • Super-Handling All Wheel Drive
  • Collision Mitigation Braking
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
  • Blind Spot Indicator
  • Rearview Camera System
  • Acura/ELS audio
  • JewelEye LED headlights

Pricing news probably will come during the New York Auto Show as well, with MSRPs of the 2015 Acura TLX likely to be right between the prices for the TSX (currently $30,365) and the TL (now $36,030).

Said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of American Honda, at the prototype's introduction: "In just the first 50 feet down the road in a TLX, you'll experience a nimble and solid ride, with a sense of controlled isolation … a hushed cabin that provides extraordinary comfort for everyday driving.

“As you would expect from an Acura, we're also offering innovative technologies that break down barriers between the driver and the car for a more intuitive and personal luxury experience."

Can't make it to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Folks can tune into the brand's YouTube channel at 1:50 p.m. to watch the 2015 Acura TLX introduced live during the first press day for the event.
