Volkswagen is doing something very interesting with the new 2013 Beetle Convertible. They’re offering special edition models that commemorate the three decades the Beetle was sold in the U.S.: the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. What we have is the 70's Edition, about which Volkswagen said, “Elegance made a big comeback in automobiles during the 1970s. So you could consider the creation of the Beetle Convertible '70s Edition a comeback of a comeback.”

The '70s Edition begins with a Beetle Convertible equipped with the 2.5L five-cylinder engine that makes 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed automatic. From there, Volkswagen dips the convertible in a Toffee Brown Metallic paint color and adds eighteen-inch “Disc” aluminum-alloy wheels and chrome exterior mirror caps. Other standard features include beige V-tex leatherette seats, navigation, nine-speaker Fender audio system, and a beige convertible soft top.

The 2.5L engine takes about eight seconds to reach 60 MPH and returns fuel economy numbers of 21 City/27 Highway/23 Combined. The soft top raises and lowers in 9.5 seconds and can be done at up to 30 MPH.

The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible ‘70's Edition starts and ends at a price of $28,595.
