2012 Jeep Compass: Video Road Test and Review

The Jeep Compass is a four door five passenger compact crossover utility vehicle from the go anywhere American automaker available in Sport, Latitude and Limited trims with both a front wheel drive favoring 4x2 drive train as well as a more capable 4x4 layout.

The entry level Compass Sport 4x2 is powered by a 2.4 Liter four cylinder engine that makes 172 HP and 165 lb-ft of torque being channeled through a five speed manual gearbox and gets an estimated 23 MPG in the concrete canyon and as much as 29 MPG on the open road.  The base $19,295 Compass comes with a 4 speaker single CD/MP3 stereo, resourceful rechargeable LED flashlight and premium cloth upholstery as well as a set of 17 inch rims; while the Compass Sport 4x4 starts at $21,045.

The next step up is the $21,695 Compass Latitude 4x2, that gets an estimated 23 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway thanks to a continuously variable transaxle and comes with a few upgraded touches like a leather wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls as well as heated and adjustable front buckets; while the Compass Latitude 4x4 starts at $23,445.

The top of the line Jeep Compass Compass Limited 4x2 goes for $24,295 and only gets an estimated 21 MPG around town and 27 MPG at highway speeds thanks to a little extra standard equipment, like leather seating, a 6 CD/DVD/MP3 stereo with Sirius XM Satellite radio, premium fog lamps, polished roof rails and exhaust tip to go with the 18 inch aluminum wheels; while the Compass Limited 4x4 starts at $26,045.
