The Hyundai Elantra is a four door five passenger midsize economy car that packages an assortment of creature comforts in a stylish body shell that is available at an affordable price; only a few of the reasons why the Elantra was named 2012 North American Car of the Year.  All Elantras are powered by a 1.8 Liter GDI four cylinder 148 HP and 131 lb-ft of torque that is good for an estimated 29 MPG in the city and as much as 40 MPG on the highway.  Hyundai offers the Elantra in two trims: GLS and Limited.

The entry level Hyundai Elantra GLS starts at $15,345 and is shifted by either a six speed manual or the Korean car builder’s optional six speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission with integrated Active ECO system.  All GLSs come with power accessories and premium cloth seating, and roll around on a set of 15 inch wheels from the factory, while optional 16 inch steel wheels with covers are available.  Audio infotainment duties are handled by a six speaker AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 stereo with USB and auxiliary input jacks with iPod compatibility as well as optional Bluetooth hands free wireless connectivity.

The Elantra Limited is available exclusively with Hyundai’s six speed SHIFTRONIC automatic gearbox and is upgraded with a set of 17 inch alloys, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, power tilt and slide sunroof, one touch driver’s window as well as leather wrapped seating surfaces, steering wheel and shift knob with leatherette door inserts, a sliding center armrest as well as heated front and rear seats.  Optional items include a proximity key with push button start as well as a seven inch high resolution display with rearview camera; starting at $20,595.

A list of cars similar to the Elantra includes the 2012 Honda Civic, 2012 Toyota Corolla and 2012 Ford Focus.
