The BMW 5 Series is a four door five passenger mid size luxury sedan with variants ranging from a fuel-efficient turbocharged four cylinder to a four door fast back Gran Turismo version all the way up to the tail-wagging tire shredding M5 high performance machine.

The entry level model in the BMW 5 Series lineup is the 528i Sedan, starting at $46,700 and powered by a gas sipping 2.0 Liter TwinPower Turbo four cylinder producing 240 HP and 260 lb-ft of torque mated to an efficient 8 speed steptronic automatic gearbox complete with paddle shifters that returns an estimated 22 MPG in the city and as much as 32 MPG on the highway.  The 528 is recognizable on the outside with its 17 inch wheels and on the inside with a leatherette interior.  While the 528i xDrive adds the power of all wheel drive for $49,000.

The 535i Sedan is the next step up the 5 Series ladder, priced at $52,250 and powered by a 3.0 Liter turbocharged straight six that sends and even 300 HP and 300 lb-ft of torque straight to the rear wheels through a six speed manual, or optional automatic, returns an estimated 19 MPG around town and 29 MPG at speed.  The 535i is good for a 0 to 60 MPH time of only 5.6 seconds and is distinguished from lesser 5s by a set of 18 inch wheels and luxurious Dakota leather upholstery.  However, like all xDrives, the $54,550 all wheel drive 535i xDrive is equipped with the 8 speed steptronic tansmission.

The top of the line 550i Sedan sells for $61,700 and gets a 4.4 Liter turbocharged V8 cranking out 400 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque, and can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in five seconds flat while still getting an estimated 15 MPG on city streets and 22 MPG cruising the autobahn.  The 550i XDrive Sedan bumps the cost up to $64,000.

A list of similar cars to the 5-Series Sedan includes the 2012 Audi A6 and the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
