The Acura MDX is a popular pick amongst premium mid-size crossover shoppers thanks to its strong list of high end features, conservative styling and ample interior room.  The Acura MDX features three rows of seating and the ability to accommodate as many as seven passengers, and it can also haul a hefty 83.5 cubic feet of cargo with those same rows folded forward.  The MDX comes with a full complement of airbags (forward, side impact and side curtain units) as well as a number of optional advanced safety technologies.

All versions of the Acura MDX are motivated by the same 3.7-liter V-6 engine.  Rated at 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, the motor comes with standard all-wheel drive and is shifted via a six-speed automatic transmission.  Fuel economy for the MDX checks in at 16-mpg in stop and go driving and 21-mpg on the highway.

The 2012 Acura MDX is sold in one trim level (MSRP $43,030) that can be customized via the judicious selection of packages.  The base MDX features HID headlights, tinted windows, heated power leather seats up front, three zones of automatic climate control, 18-inch wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, a CD player and a rearview camera.

The Entertainment package adds a DVD player and LCD screens to keep backseat riders entertained - as well as second row seat heaters - while the Technology package ups the ante with a GPS-linked climate control system that uses the position of the sun relative to the vehicle in order to keep the cabin cool, additional parking cameras, nicer leather seats, a navigation system and a surround sound system that also includes a hard drive for storing digital music files.  The Advance package adds cooled seats, an adaptive suspension system, a blind spot warning system, adaptive cruise control and a collision detection system (that can automatically brake the vehicle if necessary) on top of the Technology package's features.

Similar crossovers include the Volvo XC90, the Buick Enclave and the Audi Q7.
