2007 Volvo XC90 - V8 AWD
Cons: The entire performance and interior reliability.
Advice: If you have more than 1 child dont buy it. The third row is useless except for VERY small children and they need a carseat anyway. You can't get to the third row hardly at all.If you want a car that looks great and has no reliability, then this is your car. More than frustrated. I feel as though I was taken advantage of. This car has more things falling off than my trees in fall. Service dept doesnt want to deal with it anymore, they told me its normal wear and tear. AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR?! Steering fluid replacement and brakes after only 20K. Again, was told its normal. I never got over 15 MPG. For the amount of gas it takes, I would prefer an Excursion or Hummer.
2003 Volvo XC90 - AWD
Pros: Third row is conveinent for small, very small children.
Cons: The amount of time I spend at the dealership drives me crazy. Maintenance costs-AHHHH
Advice: Step away from the Volvo XC90.What a gross waste of my money. New brakes twice a year . replacing tires 2 times a year. Tranmission replaced at 80,000 miles. Dripping fluids. Leaking Oil. Drinks gasoline like humans drink water. If you don't have extra time to be at the dealership three times a month , do yourself a favor DONT BUY A VOLVO XC90!
2007 Volvo XC90 - V8 AWD
Cons: Quality Control.
Advice: Avoid. You wont know if they paid attention to the build of your vehicle until you take it home.Comfortable seats but atrocious reliability. Constant squeaks and rattles that dont seem fixable. In the shop 6 times the first 4 months. Very dissappointing purchase.
2006 Volvo XC90 - FWD
Pros: Anti rollover.
Cons: Ride, performance, cheap interior materials.
Advice: After much research, I've found that the cars have multitude of problems and are way expensive to maintain. You're better off going with a Subaru Tribeca, Toyota, or Honda. Volvo has turned into cheap, overpriced garbage. There was vibration in the steering at anything above 50 mph. The vehicle was not quiet.
2005 Volvo XC90 - T6 SR AWD
Pros: Ride quality and power, when it runs.
Cons: No reliability, poor interior ergonomics
Advice: stay awayThe Volvo dealer would not even buy our fully loaded 2005 XC90 T6, that is what a piece of junk the XC90s are and Volvo knows it! We have 6 cars including Ferraris, Hondas, Jeeps, Pontiacs. Volvo buyer beware, the only thing good about the XC90 is the ride quality. However ride quality does not matter when the driveshaft fails(twice), the left front strut fails(twice), tires wore out at 20k miles, and the left front axel seal failed which leaked all the oil out. Not to mention little things like the defroster barely works(and also failed) and the seat heaters mysteriously turn on. Then there are the interior ergonometric issues - try taking a family to McDonalds, there is no place to put stuff. I emailed Volvo a 65 item list, and suggested they require their engineers to drive a Toyota or Honda for 6 months of ergonometric research before starting the next interior redesign. We put up with the XC90(for 35,000 miles and 18mo), the final straw was when we were leaving for a family vacation and the axel seal failed – leaving us stranded on the freeway. I would not trust this car any farther than I could throw it. After we were stranded, my wife and I went out the next day and purchased a Toyota Sequoia. We are now in HEAVEN – everything works, nothing breaks.
2006 Volvo XC90 - FWD
Pros: Self dimming mirror
Cons: lights dim when they wash
Advice: Drive it you'll like itOnce again, I am more than pleased with the quality, comfort and reliability of teh Volvo Line. I find I must go back to these cars, time and time again. Having a number of physical problems and having to drive great lenghts at times (10-12 hours) no other car can compare. The seats and positioning is outstanding. HAving rented all different cars, all sizes and shapes, nothing compares. I'm getting 19 mpg in mixed driving and using mid grade with no problems. Would buy another in a heartbeat. ALthough this one is an automatic, I miss a stick shift, even in this size car! I still have my trusty 1999 S-70 and love the manual as well.
2004 Volvo XC90 - T6 SR AWD
Advice: If considering purchasing - I hope you like time shares with the mechanicsCam Shaft replaced. Valves replaced. Wheel Bearing replaced. Tie Rods replaced multiple times. Stereo has a mind of its own. Head gasket replaced. Manifold gasket replaced. Headliner and carpet have come undone. Approach lights that light the interior floor board do not always shut off. GPS also has a mind of its own - starts working without turning it on. Brakes are making lots of noise at 20,000 miles. MPG is now at 15.6 which is NOT the all time low.
